Season 5, Episode 1: Towers of Silence: Part 1

18 September 2005
Following the tragic death of DS Mel Silver, Frankie Wharton has left the Cold Case Unit to return to research. Felix Gibson, a bright, strong and somewhat altruistic pathologist, has stepped into her shoes. But Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd is finding it hard to find a replacement for Mel. In the meantime, DS Andrea Stephenson, who likes to be known as Andy, has been drafted in, on attachment from Kent C.I.D. Six years ago, Andy found a body on top of a water tower in Kent. The case bears similarities to a mummified body discovered on a derelict airplane. Meanwhile, Spencer Jordan goes undercover in prison. His mission is to discover the reasons behind these deaths from the convicted killer, who is too scared to say anything. But the man commits suicide in prison before Spencer can get him to reveal the identity of the true killer. The plane victim's uncle arrives from India to tell the team that his nephew was investigating a corrupt businessman who had been peddling fake drugs. The shadowy figure of the corrupt Indian businessman grows increasingly sinister as the team discover that he was manufacturing fake pharmaceutical drugs designed to be sold at a high price to unwitting Aids victims in third world countries. NOTE. A SPOILER TELLS YOU WHODUNNIT. Six other male corpses are found in a field along with Ryan's, all sex offenders, and Grace believes Kelleher killed them. After breaking into Hooper's filing cabinet she and Boyd find an anonymous manuscript, owning up to the murders to prevent further sex crimes by the victims. They surmise that Kelleher is in cahoots with Hooper but Kelleher tortures and kills Hooper after expressing scorn for his methods. A DNA test shows that Cathy and her daughter are sisters and she admits that she accidentally killed her father after he raped her. Boyd is not wholly convinced and she tells him that she rang Linda for help and that Linda beheaded him after sending her out to give her an alibi. Season 8, Episode 1: Magdalene 26: Part 1

6 September 2009
Boyd's team investigate after P.C. Katrina Howard discovers a middle-aged woman nude and wandering in woods after an apparent car crash and takes her to hospital. The woman is apparently amnesiac though she has flashes back to her teenage when she escaped from a brutal Magdalene Convent in Ireland helped by Mick O'Hare and Father Quinn. She is Elizabeth Andrews, a successful business woman but her DNA is oddly linked to a double murder in a Soho club forty years earlier, when one of the victims was a Turkish sex trafficker and the other man a John Doe. Elizabeth's abductors are Turks and a visit to her house reveals a man believed to be her husband Tony Muller tortured and murdered. Elizabeth has two visitors, one is Samuel Knight, a shifty young business associate, the other is a gunman, seemingly out to finish the job, and Stella, who is guarding Elizabeth, takes a bullet.

The man who shot Stella and was himself killed is a Turkish mafiosi but it seems the woman the priest helped at the club was really Elizabeth's twin, now captured by the Turks. Knight confesses he got a wealthy Turk to invest with him and when he lost the money he blamed Elizabeth and sent the Turks after her. The Turks also have got the real Tony who is being held with the twin 'Michelle'. Boyd saves her and learns that two twin sisters were born in 1952 in the convent but Elizabeth was adopted and 'Michelle' is the escapee who killed Topal in 1967, in self defence, with Mick also dying trying to save her. Accordingly Boyd cannot arrest her or Quinn. He gets to save Tony in a final shoot-out with the Turks but Stella is less fortunate.

20 September 2009
Eve is intrigued that her boyfriend, Ukrainian aid worker Stefan, has a bag full of different passports and chest bruises suggesting bullet wounds. She secretly takes his DNA and links it to the death of another aid worker, Briony Havers. Boyd, opposed by all the team but especially Eve, re-opens the Havers case. Stefan admits he knew Briony but denies murder. Eve believes him, particularly when he turns out to have saved the life of a girl called Olena when a ferry capsized. Olena was an illegal immigrant, though, and Grace thinks Briony and Stefan were people traffickers and Briony was killed to silence her. At the club frequented by Ukrainians, where Eve met Stefan, some form of exchange is practised, involving Briony's ex-lover, Devlin. Eve resigns when Boyd breaks her cover by bringing Stefan to her lab. She is told that Olena worked in a hospital but when she gets there she finds it is derelict and she is overpowered.

Olena's corpse is discovered, along with jars of body parts. It is an illegal live organ trade. Realising that Eve has gone to the only derelict hospital in the area, Boyd tracks her down. Devlin, the trafficking boss, is about to operate on her but Stefan saves her and brings her to Boyd, whilst Devlin and his henchmen escape. Stefan admits to Boyd that Devlin had a hold on him and Briony, and forced Briony to operate on Olena, later having Briony killed to frame Stefan. After Eve and Stefan leave for a weekend in a lakeside cabin, Boyd realises that Stefan has not been entirely honest. The false passports Eve found are to allow him to pose as a doctor for financial gain, and he purposely picked up Eve, knowing that she would defend him against the others.
