Filming Halted on Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz Movie

24 November 2009 3:25 AM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

Well, this is a new one. Bulls have halted filming of the new Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz action-comedy Knight & Day. Seven bulls escaped from the set and injured two women, prompting the production to shut down until all safety concerns are addressed. The injuries were minor and occurred after the bulls escaped their enclosure in downtown Cadiz, Spain.

Knight & Day reunites the stars of Vanilla Sky, Cruise and Diaz, and is directed by 3:10 to Yuma's James Mangold. According to reports, Diaz and Cruise were not on the set when the incident took place. There's no word yet on when filming will resume.

Knight & Day Official Synopsis:

In Knight & Day, Cruise and Diaz have a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure, where nothing and no one - even the now fugitive couple - are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival »

Cruise and Diaz Movie Suspended Following Bull Rampage

23 November 2009 12:10 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The production of James Mangold's (3:10 to Yuma) new action-comedy, Knight & Day, has been temporarily suspended after seven bulls escaped from the movie's set, injuring two people, according to THR. Formerly titled Wichita, the movie reunites Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, who previously starred together in Vanilla Sky.

Before they escaped, the bulls were being held on set in Cadiz, Spain. The bulls ran through the streets of the city before eventually making their way to the beach, where they were captured. Filming was expected to begin today, but Cruise and Diaz's scenes were not slated to be shot until the weekend. There is currently no indication of when the production will resume.

On an ironic note, Moviefone reports that Cruise and Diaz were urged not to star in the film by Cas International, an anti-bullfighting organization that feels that depicting bull runs in movies will only interest more people in the ritual. »

New Footage From Knight & Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz

19 November 2009 2:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

This just in: Tom Cruise still does his own stunts and Mary Hart still thinks it's goddamn amazing. Ever since Cruise's romantic action comedy changed its title from the serious-sounding Wichita to the jump-out-a-castle-windowish, Knight & Day, I don't think any of our readers have wondered, "How is that film going?" And even though the current title befits a high concept Matt LeBlanc comeback vehicle, the lack of awareness is odd since Knight is due next summer and directed by James Mangold, who can aptly do the macho-thing (3:10 to Yuma), the girl-thing (Girl, Interrupted), and in between (Walk the Line). In a Vanilla Sky reunion, Cameron Diaz co-stars with Cruise as the romantic interest. She has plenty of happy things to say about him (and the flick's dangerous stunts with footage!) after the jump... Like many of our readers, I too was non-plussed to see that the footage above (and »

Summit Finds a New Thriller: The Cold Light of Day

11 November 2009 8:47 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Some of the early big pictures for Summit Entertainment was involved in were thrillers: Memento, Vanilla Sky and Insomnia. But the company has courted kids lately with Twilight, Sorority Row and Sex Drive. But the company hasn't ruled out making fantasy films for adults -- Summit has just picked up a script called The Cold Light of Day, by writers Scott Wiper and John Petro, which the company will co-finance and distribute. Variety reports that the film follows "a young American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain. He's left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets." That's a lot to do in just a few hours; hopefully there's a guidebook to government conspiracies laying around. Like I said: a fantasy film for adults. No swords and orcs required. Granted, with that logline the movie »

November 6: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

7 November 2009 12:48 PM, PST | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but you’re gonna be busy staring at a big button, arguing with yourself about whether or not to push it. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see The Box this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I contemplated cinematic moral conundrums of a different order.” Instead Of: The Box, Richard Kelly’s mysterious thriller about a moral dilemma -- push a button, kill a stranger, and pocket a cool million -- that turns out to be far stranger than it appears at first... Watch: Kelly’s first film, the deeply disturbing Donnie Darko (2001), which bends time as well as moral expectations in order to craft a deliciously odd parable about sacrifice; it’s so good »

Jolie stepped up to replace Charlize Theron in the remake of 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer after the South African beauty was forced to drop out.

Cruise was also slated to star, but pulled out of his part to team up with Vanilla Sky co-star Cameron Diaz in a new movie.

Aussie actor Sam Worthington was reported to have accepted the role, but has since dropped out - and Depp has now been lined up for the lead part, according to Variety.

The film tells the tale of a female agent on the hunt for an elusive ex-boyfriend, who becomes a wanted man. »

Directors of the Decade: David Lynch

29 October 2009 11:50 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Robert here, continuing my series of the directors that shaped the past 10 years (Enjoy the first two installments on Scorsese and Bahrani) . The most important directors of the past 10 years aren’t always the most prolific, though this series will require a director to have released at least 2 films. Not to mention some of those featured here may be love ‘em or hate ‘em choices. Something tells me, this weeks entry is one such man: David Lynch.

Number of Films: Two.

Modern Masterpieces: I’m going to go ahead and suggest that both Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire qualify.

Total Disasters: Though you may feel that both Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire fall here.

Better than you remember: And if you do think that, may I suggest you place them here.

Awards: Nominated for a Best Director Oscar for Mulholland Drive. Won Best Director in Cannes for that same film. »

Tom Cruise’s Wichita Film Now Has A Title

13 October 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s new action-comedy has been without title for a while now. First it was titled Wichita and then it was renamed Trouble Man (that was never going to work) and for the past few months it’s been going by the rather clunky name of “Untitled Wichita Project“.

I know you’re dying to find out the name - but first for a riddle.

What’s the difference between Wichita and Trouble Man?

Knight and Day is the answer, apparently.

The Cruise and Diaz re-teaming (following Vanilla Sky), which is now shooting in Boston, has been been titled (if you haven’t guessed), Knight and Day.

While Knight and Day isn’t the best title in the world, it is vastly superior to the two failed previous attempts at naming the star-driven comedy. I’m sure that they’ve focus-grouped the heck out of it »

James Mangold’s Witchita Starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz Turns to Knight And Day

13 October 2009 10:24 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Previously known as “Witchita” and once known as “Trouble Man”, the upcoming Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz film will now be titled “Knight and Day”, which sounds like a title Kenneth the Page would come up with when pitching a sitcom about a medieval knight transported to modern times and falling in love with a woman with the last name “Day”.  Hit the jump for details on the film and why its potential success may have little to do with its lead actors.

15 years ago, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, would have been able to make this an easy summer blockbuster.  It was only eight years ago when they opened “Vanilla Sky” to a $25 million opening weekend even though it’s an almost shot-for-shot remake of the mindfucking Spanish film, “Abre Los Ojos”.  But 15 years ago, people didn’t think Tom Cruise had gone off the deep end and Cameron Diaz »

Cruise & Diaz Visit With Special Needs Students

12 October 2009 1:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz thrilled special needs students by treating them to a meet-and-greet on the set of their latest movie last month.

The actors invited 17 students from Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in Massachusetts to a local cornfield, where they were preparing to shoot a scene for upcoming action/comedy Wichita.

The Vanilla Sky co-stars were introduced to each of their fans, posing for individual photos and showing off film props before treating them to ice cream and cupcakes.

Teacher's aide Joanne Silipigno tells the Patriot Ledger, "The students said, 'We feel like movie stars.' They felt famous. And (they) were, for the day." »

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 27, 2009

27 September 2009 2:26 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This week:

The box office is still Cloudy; Neve Campbell Screams again; Dourif and Plummer confess to a Priest; TNT give some Basterd’s $12 million and Paul Dano decides to Cruise with Diaz.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs retained the top spot and banked another $24.6 million over the weekend. The animated tale has now made a pretty good $60 million so far.

Bruce Willis had to settle for the runner-up position for Surrogates. The comic book adaptation made a so-so $15 million despite a trim 88 minute running time.

The Fame remake grossed $10 million over the weekend. There’s really nothing that I can say about this.

The Informant brought in a little under $7 million on its second weekend giving the new Matt Damon/Steven Soderbergh team-up $20 million in the bank so far. Off a slim 33% percent from last week means that this looks to have some legs.

Cameron and The Cruises Enjoy Wichita in Boston

Cameron Diaz chatted with a few crew members yesterday near her trailer on the Boston set of Wichita, but she was joined on set this afternoon by costar Tom Cruise and his family. Suri left her high heels at home as she took a behind-the-scenes tour with mom Katie Holmes. Cameron and Tom haven't worked together since Vanilla Sky in 2001, but they already seem to be falling back into their old friendship - at least judging by their chummy appearance on the Jay Leno Show last week. Tiff Review: Agora

13 September 2009 5:03 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

"If you choose to do nothing, though, you will continue to do the same thing over and over again."

Hypatia (Rachel Weisz), Agora

To some, the name Alejandro Amenábar sparks instant interest. But if it does not, let me refresh your memory. In 1997, he wrote (with Mateo Gil) and directed the Spanish film Open Your Eyes -- which North American audiences know better by its ultra-strange U.S. remake Vanilla Sky. 2001 marked his English film premiere, the eerie Nicole Kidman thriller The Others (the only feature Gil hasn't co-written). And then in 2004, he went back to Spanish filmmaking with the Javier Bardem-starring Oscar winner The Sea Inside. Now he's grabbed the likes of Rachel Weisz, Max Minghella, and Oscar Isaac for a film that doesn't journey through facial reconstruction, ghosts, or euthanasia. It's a gorgeous, thought-provoking Roman epic called Agora.

Tiff 2009 Two Days In: What’s Good & Bad So Far

12 September 2009 1:19 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Coming up to the third day of the film festival and thus far I have seen The Informant!, which I liked very much despite some problems with decision making by the director, Broken Embraces, which features just a stunning performance from the astonishing Penelope Cruz, Antichrist, a repellant yet unforgettable film, Hugh Hefner, a superb documentary that should earn an Oscar nomination, Bright Star, a disappointing film from Jane Campion, Jennifer’s Body, a rather average horror film from the pen of Juno (2007) writer Diablo Cody and the superb Up in the Air, from the great Jason Reitman.

Matt Damon and George Clooney are both so good, so strong in their respective films that choosing one over the other for the Oscar seems impossible, but if I had a vote it would go to Clooney for his stunning work as a man who thinks he is living a life he loves, »

The Best of the Obsessed

4 September 2009 12:26 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

The Best of the Obsessed Sandra Bullock's new film All About Steve is hitting theaters today. In the film, Bullock plays Mary Horowitz, a woman who is set up on a blind date with Steve (Bradley Cooper) and instantly believes that they are soul mates. Obsessively, Mary decides to follow Steve anywhere he goes and will stop at nothing to be with him. This got me thinking about how Hollywood often produces movies centering the domineering, aggressive and downright crazy, on-the-edge female character. Today, the majority of them are stereotypes, cliched personas of other characters (such as Bullock's Mary in Steve) and are, honestly, annoying. Here are what I believe to be some of the best of the obsessed female characters to grace the silver screen. 10.Cameron Diaz in Vanilla Sky (2001) I remember seeing this film in theaters and saying to myself “Cameron Diaz better be nominated for an Oscar. »
