Before the Rock came along and got the crowd on his side with a series of oft-repeated catch phrases (eg: If you smell what the rock is cooking, finally the rock has come back to blah blah blah etc) and long before Steve Austin started giving people the finger and applying his Stone Cold Stunner, there was only one truly dominant force in the World Wrestling Federation: and that was the Undertaker. The Federation had suffered terribly during his eight month abscence. Not in popularity but in overall quality. Wrestlemania had been a shambles, No Way Out was terrible and the Royal Rumble was one of the worst in years. The only good thing that happened during his abscence was the culmination of the rise of Triple H, a man who is undoubtedly the best wrestler in the business. But here the Undertaker returned, and with him a lot of interest and some great storylines.
The ironman match between Triple H and the Rock was a great one, despite falling well short of the previous iron man effort by Bret Hart (best wrestler ever) and Shawn Michaels. This was the ultimate match up: the best Wrestler in the business going at it for 60 minutes with the biggest crowd favourite in the business. In the end the Taker had the final say, tombstoning Triple H to give the Game the win and the WWF Championship.
This was basically a pretty average pay per view, lifted to the status of classic by an entertaining title fight and the return of the Phenom.
It is also significant for being the final pay per view featuring 3 time former champion Shawn Michaels.
