Amy Sorlie wrote the script, which follows a diving instructor returning to the deep after a dangerous encounter with a Great White shark. At this stage, that seems like one heck of a boring ride. »

Halle Berry Is Back, And Fighting A Great White

9 September 2009 6:42 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Halle Berry has been pretty Mia for the last few years-- after starring in the last X-Men movie and trying her hand at drama in the underseen Things We Lost in the Fire, she had a baby, took a break, and signed her name on to a handful of projects, none of which have started production. Now she's adding another one to the pile, going into advanced talks to sign in Dark Tide, an action thriller about a diving instructor returning to the high seas after an encounter with a Great White. Amy Sorlie wrote it, according to Variety, and S.W.A.T. director Clark Johnson will handle it all from there. Johnson too has been Mia-- since S.W.A.T. he has mostly directed TV show episodes. Think this can be a decent comeback for the both of them? »

Berry diving into Dark Tide

Halle Berry could be making the thriller Dark Tide before the end of the year. The Die Another Day actress is in talks to headline the movie for director Clark Johnson (S.W.A.T., NBC's Kings) and producers Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Martin Shore and Christopher Tuffin.

The movie centers on a diving instructor who once had a deadly encounter with a great white shark. She tries to overcome her fear of returning underwater. The picture is budgeted at between $15 million to $20 million and will film in South Africa.

Berry's last film was 2007's Things We Lost in the Fire. She's taken the time off to become a mother and just returned to making movies this year. Frankie and Alice, a drama in which she stars with Stellan Skarsgard, is in the can but doesn't as yet have a release date. However, recent unconfirmed gossip heard in the past week states that »

Halle Berry Sees Dark Tide Rising

8 September 2009 11:54 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The ridiculously beautiful Halle Berry has signed on to star as a diving instructor in Dark Tide, which means at some point she's likely to have to wear a bikini / skin-tight wetsuit. By our calculations, that translates to at least $400 million at the box office. The thriller, set to be directed by Clark Johnson (City Editor Gus in The Wire, director of The Sentinel and S.W.A.T.), has Berry's character returning to the sea after a near-fatal encounter with a great white shark. And then action and thrills follow - we're not sure how yet.The film's due to shoot in South Africa later in the year, based on a script by Amy Sorlie. Keep an eye out for this one sometime late next year. In the meantime, you're going to have to keep watching that worn-out copy of Into The Blue. »

Halle Berry vs. shark

It's probably safe to assume that we won't see Halle Berry back as Storm, Catwoman or Bond babe Jinx, but that doesn't mean she's done with action. Berry provides her Oscar-winning hotness to Dark Tide, a thriller being directed by Clark Johnson (S.W.A.T., "The Shield"). Is Jeremy Renner The New Mad Max?

1 August 2009 8:42 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

George Miller has been working on a new Mad Max film for almost a decade and old Max himself, Mel Gibson, was set to return in Mad Max 4: Fury Road in 2002 when the war in Iraq scuttled the project. Since then, Gibson has passed on the role stating that he is too old to play the character.

Miller has pondered many different possibilities for the future of the franchise, ranging from recasting the part, to making the next installment in the series an animated film.

Now it would appear that Miller has decided to return to the live action format with The Hurt Locker star, Jeremy Renner, as a possible candidate for the lead role of Mad Max.

In an interview with The Modesto Bee about Kathryn Bigelow’s latest critically-acclaimed movie, The Hurt Locker, Renner revealed some details on his upcoming projects including a starring role in »

Jeremy Renner as 'Mad Max'?

31 July 2009 9:30 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

During an interview with The Modesto Bee (unearthed by AICN), actor Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, 28 Weeks Later) revealed that he has auditioned for the upcoming Mad Max movie.

"I'm also fighting to do the new Mad Max film with George Miller," he said. "That might be next summer. I'm screen-testing and meeting George Miller."

While Renner confirmed that Miller is pushing forward with another installment, it's still unclear if that installment will be the R-rated 3-D anime film that Miller has previously mentioned, or a live-action feature, though we'd bet on the latter.

Back in May Miller was reported to be scouting locations in Sydney to shoot Mad Max 4, which suggests that he has abandoned the anime route and has decided to go live-action.

Of course, none of this means that Renner has the part—only that he's in contention. Still, his star is rising Renner’s and »

The Hurt Locker Movie Review

17 July 2009 11:44 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

For a long while, I was unsure how to talk about this film. It’s obviously about the war in Iraq, but it’s not necessarily a war film. There are tense scenes, but it’s not really a suspense/thriller film. The film is less about a certain storyline or eventual showdown, and more about the ability to function in a personal hell. Maybe it just exists.

The film centers around a three-man crew whose specialty is Eod, or Explosive Ordinance Disposal. For those of us not in the military, they’re the bomb squad. Their daily routine is much like that of a firefighter – extremely dangerous situations are going to call, and it’s a question of when, not if. Sgt. William James (played by a surprisingly entertaining Jeremy Renner… wasn’t he in that god-awful S.W.A.T. remake?) is the team leader, who seems to insist on doing things the hard way. »

DVD Review: ‘Sports Night’ – The Complete Series 10th Anniversary Edition

17 June 2009 12:40 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

There are few television shows that hold my interest past the pilot episode. When they do, they usually get cancelled because most networks can’t seem to identify quality programs without the help of their woefully misguided Neilsen system. In rare instances, such as the Family Guy and Futurama resurrections, a fantastic show gets canceled, then does so well on DVD, the network is forced to place it’s tail squarely between its legs and bring the show back to life. Sports Night was not one of these shows.

The year is 1998. ABC has Home Improvement, NYPD Blue, Ellen, Dharma and Drew. On Tuesday September 22, they premiere a little show-within-a-show called Sports Night.  The ensemble cast includes a few heavyweights, and several actors who earned their street cred long after Sports Night was running on Comedy Central at 3am.

The show centers around the cast and crew of a sports »

trailer break: ‘The Hurt Locker’

10 June 2009 9:31 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

I’m real excited about this one, for a couple of reasons. First: Kathryn Bigelow has demonstrated more than once that a chick can make a kickass action movie (Blue Steel, Strange Days, Near Dark) that is also smart and complicated and provocative and offers a new perspective on something we thought we’d heard everything about. Second: Jeremy Renner is awesome, and has been standing on the doorstep of stardom for forever (S.W.A.T., North Country, 28 Weeks Later). What’s more, he actually deserves it: he’s one of those actors who’s totally ingratiating onscreen but never in that supernatural-celebrity way. He’s like Bill Paxton, supremely good at appearing extremely ordinary, while under that lurks a paradoxical power to expose ordinariness as something special. Third: Anthony Mackie, who was pretty much the only thing worth watching in the otherwise embarrassing Notorious. He made Tupac Shakur live in a »
