Amy Adams 'Leap Year' trailer: More than just another witless rom-com? Or...not?

13 November 2009 12:29 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Okay, full disclosure: I loathe movies in which seemingly smart, talented women consider snagging a man (a barftastic expression in and of itself) to be the be-all, end-all goal of their existence. It's an insidious trope that reduces us to a flock of retrograde numbskulls. As an anthropological experiment/exercise in masochism, I dragged my husband and some pals to see Bride Wars on opening night earlier this year and I'm still scarred. (Serves me right, I know, I know.) There was a scene in which a small Tiffany box (i.e. The Coveted Ring!) falls from a closet shelf »

Extra! Laura Dern Is a Focker, Mike Mitchell Enlists in Monster Squad, Screen Gems Hires The Black Phantom, and Scott Derrickson Is Among The Living

19 October 2009 1:43 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Here at Collider, we’re all killer, no filler.  Okay, sometimes a little filler.  Filler’s good for you.  Makes you grow up big and strong and slightly overweight.  But rather than throw up four stories, we’re going to give them to you for the price of one.  We’re generous like that.

Hit the jump to read about Laura Dern joining “Little Fockers”, “Shrek Forever After” director Mike Mitchell making “Monster Squad” his next project, Screen Gems developing the comedy, “The Black Phantom”, and Scott Derrickson coming on board to direct “The Living”.

Laura Dern Joins Little Fockers

Since there’s no shame in working crummy jobs in this economy, actress Laura Dern has joined the cast for the upcoming “Meet the Parents” sequel, “Little Fockers”.  Original cast members Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, and Owen Wilson are returning with Jessica Alba signing on »

Wait, so this Monster Squad movie isn't a remake of The Monster Squad?

19 October 2009 1:20 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Outside of a group of film buffs and fanboys, not a lot of the general public is going to care that Warner Bros. decided to rename their supernatural action comedy Nightcrawlers, which has undergone major story revisions since being purchased nine years ago by the studio, to Monster Squad. But to those of us that came of age in the 1980s or just obsessively know the credits of Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black, The Monster Squad was a 1987 supernatural action comedy too. However, aside from sharing two of the three words, this new Monster Squad will likely veer away from the kids club of monster hunters seen in the '87 movie.

All of this is just esoteric information to the real meat of the story which is Warners has hired Sky High and Surviving Christmas director Mike Mitchell to direct Monster Squad. After nearly a decade of sitting in development »

Dreamworks Animation (aka the poor man’s Pixar) has released their animated movie lineup for the next four years. Unsurprisingly there are further entries into tried and tested (at the box office) series’ such as Shrek and Madagascar, a sequel to the surprisingly good Kung Fu Panda, and a few original projects. They plan to produce one or two sequels and an original project every year, all of which will be produced in digital 3D.

Yogi Bear Lands a New Director

24 February 2009 11:03 PM, PST | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Eric Brevig, a longtime visual effects supervisor whose credits include The Day After Tomorrow and Men in Black and who made his directorial debut with last year’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, has signed on to direct Yogi Bear - Warner Bros.' feature take on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who executive produced That '70s Show, are penning the screenplay for Yogi, which will offer a new take on the half-century-old title character and his sidekick Boo Boo, who get into a series of misadventures in Jellystone Park and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith. Sternin and Ventimilia previously wrote the Ben Affleck comedy Surviving Christmas and the upcoming Dwayne Johnson family flick, The Tooth Fairy. The movie is expected to combine live action and CG, in the same style as 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks. It’s also being produced as a 3-D project. »

Simon Beaufoy To Write Leap Year

28 January 2009 11:08 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar-nominated writer of The Full Monty and Slumdog Millionaire, has bagged his first high-profile gig since the release of the Danny Boyle film: he’s been tapped to write a new draft of the Amy Adams romantic comedy, Leap Year.Regular readers may recall that we’ve been highly cynical about Leap Year since it was first announced – not because of Adams, who’s excellent, and not because of the high-concept (Adams travels to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on Feb. 29, a la the ancient tradition, only for things to go hilariously wrong), but because of its writers, Deb Kaplan and Harry Elfont, the duo who wrote the unspeakably bad Made Of Honour, Surviving Christmas and, just for bad measure, The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas.Given the hideous Scottish stereotypes they inflicted upon us with Made Of Honour (a film which features an actual caber-tossing competition »
