  • Continuity: In the dressing room, the pink top repeatedly jumps between the girl and the hanger between cuts.

  • Continuity: The time on the digital clock behind the Governor jumps around between shots.

  • Continuity: The size of the tag on the shotguns change from scene to scene

  • Continuity: When the meteor hits Wayne's car we clearly see the windscreen fly off into the air and smash, but later when the police turn the car over the windscreen is back on the car with very little damage.

  • Continuity: In the opening sequence, when Wayne runs from the meteor about to hit the ground, he isn't wearing his fireman's jacket. When he is shown with his back to the camera looking at the explosion, he is wearing a jacket.

  • Continuity: The way Ira holds his coffee cup in the diner changes repeatedly between shots.

  • Continuity: Ira changes position improbably between shots while singing "Play That Funky Music".

  • Continuity: As they are sneaking into the restricted area after dark, Ira and Harry take a belly flop at the razor wire fence. In the next shot they're walking inside the fence and their uniforms have no dirt on them whatsoever.

  • Continuity: When Wayne kicks the hut's door in the beginning, a board on the wall, right to him, falls down. In the next shot, it's back on the wall again.

  • Continuity: When Ira, Harry, Wayne and Allison are leaving the military installation, the wiper of the jeep is turned on as the car is started. In the next shot, the wiper is off.

  • Continuity: When Allison meets Ira, her hair is alternately loose/tucked behind her ears between shots.

  • Continuity: Towards the end of the movie, when they first show the party at the College, they show the Jeep is clearly parked and no-one is in it. In the next scene the characters are shown rolling up and parking at the college.

  • Continuity: When Wayne's car is hit by the meteor the front wheel is hanging from the axle... but when the car is being flipped by the cops the wheel is fine and he drives off

  • Continuity: During the party at the country club, the blond woman wears red shoes. When she arrived near the green in order to drink Champagne, the shoes are in her hands. After the scene when Barry Cartwright died she came back with the shoes at her feet.

  • Continuity: When the heroes are using the fire engine against the alien at the end, the ladder of the fire engine is up. As they race away immediately after, the ladder is down, without showing them lowering it.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the beginning of the movie when Harry is supposed to be writing "Route 89-A", his pen isn't clicked.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): At the end of the movie, when the three heroes are in the Head and Shoulders commercial, they pull each pull out a bottle. Harry is clearly holding the bottle with the back label facing forward, rather than the front of the bottle.

  • Continuity: During the "class trip" to the meteor crash site, the gas that the flatworms breath is clinging very low to the ground. Yet, in the very next scene, after they have collected some of the worms and a sample of the atmosphere in a jar, the gas is clearly floating at the top of the jar with the worms having to reach up to breath it.

  • Factual errors: The "Fire Engine" is actually a "Ladder Truck" which does not have a water tank and/or a water pump. Therefore it can not pump any kind of liquid, it needs a "Fire Engine" to accomplish that task.

  • Factual errors: Generals wear stars centered on the epaulets and not by the shoulder seam.

  • Factual errors: The Army officers all wear Army Medical Corps branch insignia in the movie. Medical officers only command their staff and not combat personnel.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Almost all "science" in the movie is bogus. It's a comedy, not a documentary.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Wayne throws the match into the shack to start the fire, the match can be seen bouncing off the window frame, yet the fire still starts.

  • Revealing mistakes: As the shampoo is being pumped into the alien to kill it, the fire hose delivering it is still flat and empty.

  • Revealing mistakes: Near the end, when they go into the nest-cave to fill it with Head and Shoulders, Ira tells Wayne to go out and wait for his signal. Ira and the rest then go into the cave, dragging the fire hose, but as Wayne gets out the fire hose remains still.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the three hunters shoot the bird in the mall, they walk over to it and it begins to move. All three lower and fire their pump shotguns once, indicating that each now has a spent shell in the chamber. Moments later, when they do the tough-guy move racking the slides in unison, no shell is ejected from any of the shotguns.
