'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' Movie Trailer

9 December 2009 7:32 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The first trailer for Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice is here, and if you were hoping for a faithful adaptation of the Mickey Mouse segment from Fantasia, you're somewhat in luck! As I watched the video over at Apple.com (also see it after the jump) I waited and waited and waited for some recognizable shot that would connect it to its source. And then, there it was: a scene in which Jay Baruchel, in the Mickey role, is dealing with a flooded laboratory and a (hopefully possessed) mop. It may be a short sequence just to appease us sticklers, but I'm thankful for it, nonetheless.

Otherwise, the trailer is a repetitive and confusing mess, and it doesn't help me understand what this thing is about in the least. All I know is The Sorcerer's Apprentice will feature a whole bunch of CG and way too many shots of the Chrysler Building, »

Dave’s Weekly Comic Book Recommendations

2 December 2009 10:15 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

This week is a lighter week than last week, so I’m going to take this opportunity to talk about some of the books that came out last week that I didn’t get a chance to check out because of Thanksgiving. Which reminds me: comics do not come out today (Wednesday, Dec. 2) they come out tomorrow because of the holiday.

Last week the trade came out for one of the best miniseries that not a lot of people may know about. This book is Wildstorm’s The Winter Men by Brett Lewis and John Paul Leon. Lewis is responsible for the creation of Bulletproof Monk and this new book is incomparable. It involves the  development of a super soldier program in Cold War Russia to serve as a deterrent to America’s Superman. The trade came out last week, and if you can find it, you really cannot go wrong with this incredible book. »

Fall Frights: House Of 1000 Corpses (Film Review)

20 October 2009 12:41 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Originally published, 04/09/2003

I’m reviewing Rob Zombie’s House Of 1000 Corpses a bit late for two reasons: 1) There were no advance screenings held in New York, as Lions Gate figured quite reasonably that mainstream critics wouldn’t get it; and 2) Not only did I want to catch it with a regular audience for the full experience, but sometimes a situation like this arises where I want to support the film with my box-office bucks. And House Of 1000 Corpses deserves it; while it’s not going to alter the course of horror cinema as we know it, it delivers exactly what it promises: a balls-out tribute to the genre classics of the ’70s that pushes the R rating to the limit and »

Exclusive: Pete Wentz And Image Comics Team Up For ‘Fall Out Toyworks’

4 June 2009 12:25 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

By James Montgomery

From MTV.Com: You would think Pete Wentz already has enough on his plate: band, label, fashion line, burgeoning Twit-lationship with Mark Hoppus. Well, now he’s got a comic book too.

That’s right: In September, Wentz will join forces with Image Comics to publish “Fall Out Toyworks,” a five-issue miniseries that revolves around a mysterious toymaker, a cyborg gal named Tiffany and a kid in a bear suit that looks lifted from the cover of Fall Out Boy’s Folie á Deux.

Conceived by Wentz and Los Angeles designer Darren Romanelli, “Toyworks” will be written by Brett Lewis (who wrote the acclaimed “The Winter Men” series and Image’s “Bulletproof Monk” book) with art from Sam Basri and Imaginary Friends Studios.

Hurt Confirmed for Scott’s Robin Hood Project

12 April 2009 10:04 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

William Hurt has officially joined the cast of Universal and Imagine's untitled Robin Hood film being directed by Ridley Scott. The actor, whose recent credits include The Incredible Hulk, Vantage Point and Into the Wild, was rumored to be in talks since June. Russell Crowe is headlining the movie, which is billed as a retelling of the origins of the legend's key characters. Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian, and the project, written by Brian Helgeland (Man on Fire), Ethan Reiff (Kung Fu Panda) and Cyrus Voris (Bulletproof Monk), also includes Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle as the Merry Men. Mark Strong, Oscar Isaacs and Lea Seydoux also star. Hurt plays William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke, a historical figure who was one of the most powerful men in Europe. Marshall was a servant to the Plantagenet kings and one of the best jousters of the era. »

Sienna Miller Drops Out of Nottingham

10 January 2009 2:05 PM, PST | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

It looks like Ridley Scott’s upcoming Robin Hood flick, Nottingham, has faced yet another set back. New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that Sienna Miller, who was set to play Maid Marian, has dropped out of the film. According to the gossip column, Miller left the film on Friday after it was "put on hold" while shooting was pushed back from February to April. Apparently the delay is a result of the film's star, Russell Crowe, still needing to lose weight he gained for his role in Body of Lies. Page Six also claims that Crowe is demanding script rewrites and trying to get Scott fired from the director’s chair, something I find hard to believe. The actor and director have collaborated on four films and I don’t think Crowe would be going behind his back, as Page Six claims, to remove him from the project. »
