‘Season of the Witch’ Teaser May Make You Wish It Was A ‘Halloween III’ Remake

23 October 2009 12:42 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

I don't know quite what to make of the first teaser for Season of the Witch. Watch it and then we'll talk... Admittedly, this is a teaser so it's difficult to get a real sense of what to expect from the film, but I'm currently both horrified and curious. The plot synopsis per IMDb states that "14th-century knights transport a suspected witch to a monastery, where monks deduce her powers could be the source of the Black Plague." Seems pretty straight forward I guess, but something just doesn't feel right here... ah yes... Nicolas Cage. I have no plans to turn this little post into an anti-Cage rant, but few actors can take me out of a movie quicker than Nicolas "His soul's still dancing!" Cage. From his bewildering hair pieces to his lackadaisical facial expressions the man just hasn't been a captivating actor in well over a decade now. (Although »

'Halloween is for Amateurs': Teaser Trailer for 'Season of the Witch'

Photo: Lionsgate We have just received an early teaser trailer for Dominic Sena's upcoming supernatural thriller Season of the Witch starring Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore and Christopher Lee and due in theaters on March 19, 2010.

Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

You can check out the trailer directly below and get the complete synopsis here.

As fun as this trailer looks, you have to be questionable considering Sena is the director at the helm following his latest bust with Whiteout. While I can give Swordfish and Gone in 60 Seconds a guilty pleasure pass, Sena »

Lionsgate has unleashed the first teaser trailer for “Season of the Witch” courtesy of IGN Movies.

In the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.

When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, »

Teaser Trailer: Season of the Witch

22 October 2009 9:59 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

IGN have posted the new trailer for Nicolas Cage’s Season of the Witch. Cage seems to have a new movie coming out every week but the usual question we have to ask whenever his name is attached to anything is, ‘is it any good?!’.

Season of the Witch is directed by Dominic Sena who has previously brought us Gone in Sixty Seconds and Swordfish. He’s recently directed Whiteout which starred Kate Beckinsale, cost $35m to make and has recouped $12m at the box office. Not great figures eh! We’ll have to see how this new movie gets on. Check out the synopsis and trailer below.

30-Second Season of the Witch Teaser

22 October 2009 6:14 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Thanks to IGN.com, we have our first look at the upcoming Season of the Witch starring Nicolas Cage, albeit a very brief look. 30 seconds isn’t quite enough to differentiate one film from the rest of the crowd, but this does give a good sense of the tone of the film … and Cage’s chosen hairpiece.

Season of the Witch is directed by Dominic Sena (Whiteout, Swordfish) from a script by Bragi F. Schut, who’s a relative unknown. The film deals with a group of knights in the 14th century, who deliver a witch into a monastery in order to determine if her powers might be responsible for the devastating Black Plague. from the look of things, I’d guess they’re on to something. Also, the film co-stars Ron Perlman, who is fantastic in just about everything.

The film is scheduled for release on March 19, 2010. Get excited »

Hugh Jackman Unfortunately Joins Silly Robot Boxing Movie. Today in Film Bloggery 10/01/09

1 October 2009 4:24 PM, PDT | Spout.com | See recent Spout news »

People seem to think Hugh Jackman deserves better than a boxing robot movie. But seriously, is his starring in Real Steel any worse than his appearances in Van Helsing, Swordfish or pretty much anything else he's done since breaking out as Wolverine in the first X-Men movie? Sure, he's an entertaining Oscar host, and he's apparently very enjoyable on the stage. But try to name one movie he's re ... »

‘A-Team’ van pic discovered and ‘Watchmen’s’ Patrick Wilson joins the cast

21 September 2009 7:01 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

On the heels of District 9’s Sharlto Copley joining The A-Team and Jessica Biel in talks to play the hottest general since George C. Scott, Patrick Wilson has decided he too would like a piece of the action.

Wilson is set to play a CIA agent in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the ’80s television hit and is rumored to be the film’s central villain. The Watchmen star will be joining an already heavy-esque cast featuring the likes of Liam Neeson, Quntin “Rampage” Jackson and The Hangover’s breakout star Bradley Cooper.

The film will be directed by Joe Carnahan (Narc) with a script from Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hitman, Swordfish).

As if news of Wilson’s entry into the production wasn’t enough, check out the fabled van that will be used in the movie. Sure it isn’t much…but it’s something. For more pics check out Splash News. »

‘From Paris with Love’ Red Band Trailer

17 September 2009 10:16 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

John Travolta: the name used to be synonymous with dancing, bad accents, Scientology, and mediocre films. Then Pulp Fiction came out and reminded everyone in Hollywood that he’s actually a pretty good leading man. Often times he plays such an intriguing bad guy, that one can’t help but enjoy his performance, whether you want to or not.  Arguably, he was the best part about Face/Off, Primary Colors, A Civil Action, The General’s Daughter, Swordfish and even the ridiculous Battlefield Earth.

After this summer’s mild hit The Taking of Pelham 123, Travolta will channel his best Denzel Washington from Training Day in Pierre Morel’s latest action flick From Paris with Love.  Co-starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors, August Rush) as an embassy worker who gets paired up with Detective Wax (Travolta) in Paris, the two seem to work together on a French drug deal - or are they? »

Story Behind 'Whiteout' More Interesting Than 'Whiteout'

13 September 2009 9:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The Antarctic murder mystery Whiteout was a wipe-out this weekend, with almost universally negative reviews and a sixth-place debut at the box office. The movie's lousy -- here's Cinematical's scathing report, courtesy of Peter Hall -- but by most accounts the graphic novel it's based on, written by Greg Rucka and drawn by Steve Lieber, is pretty good. In conjunction with that, Portland film critic and cartoonist Mike Russell interviewed Lieber (who's also a Portlander -- lots of comic book people here) about the process of drawing the book and seeing it turned into a movie. Russell adapted this conversation into an edition of his "Culture Pulp" comic, which appears occasionally in the Oregonian newspaper and online at Russell's website.

As is often the case with bad movies, the behind-the-scenes stories for Whiteout are fascinating. Wolfgang Petersen (Air Force One, The Perfect Storm) expressed interest in making a film version »

Whiteout Review

12 September 2009 1:28 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Short version: While far from perfect, Whiteout does manage to keep you guessing until the end and ultimately doesn’t leave you feeling ripped off.

Screen Rant’s Paul Young reviews Whiteout

A while back, Kate Beckinsale was asked about her involvement with the next Underworld movie and she explained that she was done wearing tight leather outfits. I thought she might be serious, but man, she didn’t have to go overboard on the next film by walking around 95% of the time wearing a parka! But I’ve got to give credit to whoever wrote the opening scene for Whiteout, Oscar-worthy material my friend - in a scene that was obviously written to appeal to the young male audience, Beckinsale walks through the snow into her room and promptly removes most (read: not enough) of her clothing in order to take a shower.

The scene does nothing to move along, »

Review: Whiteout

12 September 2009 9:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The most telling component of how misguided and laboriously mediocre Whiteout, the latest film from Gone in 60 Seconds director Dominic Sena, is can be found within the manner in which its heroine, United States Marshal Carrie Stetko, is introduced. The camera tracks the back of Stetko, played by the aesthetically immaculate Kate Beckinsale, through the winding corridors of her station at a research lab on Antarctica before she arrives at her personal quarters. Beckinsale then begins to slowly remove every layer of her clothing in preparation for a remarkably unnecessary shower sequence.

Now, before that begins to sound like a prospect that may make Whiteout worth your time or money, keep in mind how unabashedly pointless this extended scene is. It's not showing us how savage the conditions in Antarctica are, as Beckinsale looks like she just emerged from a week at a health spa. It's not showing us how mundane her job is, »

Movie Review: “Whiteout”

Seen on: September 11, 2009

The players: Director: Dominic Sena, Writers: Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chad Hayes, Carey Hayes, Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, Columbus Short, Alex O'Loughlin

Facts of interest: Sena also directed "Swordfish."

The plot: Kate Beckinsale plays a U.S. Marshal sent to investigate a brutal murder in the middle of Antarctica.

Our quick thoughts: After an eight-year absence from the big screen, Dominic Sena returns with “Whiteout,” an action thriller that makes me wish he would have stayed away for a couple of more years. Dump, predictable and incredibly monotonous, this film is one to avoid like a plague. In other words, it’s a cinematic catastrophe. »

Whiteout Review

11 September 2009 11:23 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Whiteout” has a good premise and a likeable lead, but it goes rapidly downhill and is ultimately disappointing, thanks to confusing direction, an anti-climactic finale and an ‘Is that it?’ plot that makes less sense the more you think about it.

Directed by Dominic Sena (from a script credited to two different sets of brothers – never a good sign), Whiteout stars Kate Beckinsale as Us Marshal Carrie Stetko, who’s taken a post at a remote research station in Antarctica in order to escape a traumatic incident in her past. As her posting nears an end, she’s considering turning in her badge, but her departure plans are put on hold by the discovery of a mysterious body on the ice… read more [ViewLondon.co.uk]

It’s all fine, as far as it goes, but that’s not very far. Beckinsale is a trim and athletic actress, but she’s not a very compelling presence, »

Movie Review: Whiteout (2009)

Kate Beckinsale's face remains unaffected by the blistering cold in Whiteout

Photo: Warner Bros. You ever hear of this place called Antarctica? Of course you have, it's the place with all the cute little penguins from that documentary you saw four years ago. However, did you know it is the coldest, most isolated landmass on the planet? Okay, you probably knew that too, just not in such threatening terms. But you better get ready, because the blistering cold and lonely continent is about to bore you stiff in a film that isn't as much awful as it is just plain dumb. Whiteout has been delayed for as long as I can remember after first seeing footage from it back at the 2007 Comic Con, again at Comic Con 2008 and it finally arrives in theaters in 2009. Typically when a film is delayed this long it's for a reason and Whiteout doesn't »

Review: Whiteout

11 September 2009 12:00 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

There comes a moment in Dominic Sena's Whiteout where our heroine Marshal Carrie Stetko (played by the usually British Kate Beckinsale) is about to face something horrific but it doesn’t come from a faceless killer’s snow axe or from the possibility of freezing to death in the Antarctic winter. The scene takes place in a doctor’s office and the horror of the situation comes from Stetko facing the aftermath of being exposed to sub-zero weather. I won’t spoil it further but let me add just this final note: what should have been a scene that left the audience squirming in silent horror turned into an unintentional funny moment where the people in my theatre (myself included) openly laughed at the absurdity of a poorly chosen line of dialogue. It’s these kinds of stupid moments that reduce Whiteout to being a sub-par thriller, one that »

Box office preview: Will Tyler Perry score again with 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself'?

10 September 2009 7:29 PM, PDT | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

By now, every box-office prognosticator knows not to underestimate director-writer-producer-actor Tyler Perry, whose rapid two-movies-per-year pace likely keeps director Terrence Malick up at night. Perry's latest project, the dramedy I Can Do Bad All By Myself starring Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), should have no trouble debuting in first place against three other new releases: The umpteenth college slasher Sorority Row, the Antarctica-set thriller Whiteout, and the post-apocalyptic animated adventure 9. Here's how I think the crowded weekend will play out. 1. Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself -- $28 million Perry's biggest hit, Madea Goes to Jail, premiered earlier this year to the tune of $41 million. The director's movies see a spike in their grosses whenever the name of Perry's iconic bespectacled granny, Madea, is featured in their titles. While I Can Do Bad All By Myself lacks that distinction, Lionsgate isn't hiding the fact »

Whiteout (review)

What’s a nice U.S. marshal like Carrie Stetko doing in a place like Antarctica? Freezing her ass off. *cue rimshot* If Whiteout were as entertaining as a bad nightclub act telling stale jokes, it’d be a massive improvement over the laughably lackluster police procedural that it is, which would be merely terrible were it set in New York or Los Angeles or Chicago. But set in Antarctica -- surely one of the coolest places on Earth, and I’m not talking about the weather -- it approaches something of a cinematic crime itself. Oh, the squandering! It’s like setting a story on Mars and then pretending we’re just out in the Arizona desert. Seems it took four screenwriters -- Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chad Hayes, and Carey Hayes -- to come up with a few offhand remarks about the extreme cold for the characters to utter, »

'Twilight' Producers Close To Casting Halle Berry For Thriller 'Dark Tide'

9 September 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

By choice or not, Halle Berry has stayed on the outskirts of Hollywood's radar in the last few years, appearing in just two relatively low-profile films, with a third indie still awaiting release. The folks behind the "Twilight" franchise, conversely, are at the epicenter of the pop culture zeitgeist.

Variety is reporting that the thriller "Dark Tide" will have Berry and two "Twilight" producers, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, joining forces. Nothing's set yet — the Oscar-winner is still in those mysterious "advance talks" — but if everything works out, Berry will sign on to play a diving instructor who suffers a near-fatal accident with a great white shark and then decides — screw it! — to head back to the ocean.

The script comes from newbie Amy Sorlie, a screenwriter and journalist who — if her Twitter account is an accurate representation — is a committed beach bum based in Los Angeles. Clark Johnson, a »
