The $1 DVD and more than worth it!

I had seen The Klutz (the English Title) on T.V. in the past. While perusing a bin of $1 DVDs at Loblaws I found a copy of the film. I didn't buy it then but the next time I went there I picked it up.

I bought this film because the star of the film, Claude Michaud, reminded me of one of my old bosses at work.

This movie was given a turkey in that now worthless Home Video Movie Guide or whatever it is called but for the price the film was well worth its tiny asking price. A true hidden gem.

The movie is about the klutzy Claude Latour and his misadventures. He is engaged to Martine, a beautiful young woman who truly loves him despite his faults. However, Martine's wealthy father will not accept the marriage unless he makes something of himself. Latour's attempts to stay on the job are humorous to say the least. At his last job at a construction site he ends up swallowing a nail and the ensuing surgery causes him to lose his voice. Then he gets accidentally involved in a robbery and he is left holding the bag and the movie deals with his attempts to get out of this pickle.

The movie isn't high-budget. I think the same budget that is used for those Skinemax films on Sex T.V. was used for this one. It's more of a T.V. film. However, Michaud's performance is terrific. He makes Latour a very likable character and you root for him. Louise Portal, who would later be in The Decline Of The American Empire, is also pretty good and she looks gorgeous here as well.

To be honest, the dubbing of the film is akin to those chop-socky King Fu films. Some of the voices are downright hilarious and the acting is over the top. The DVD does have the original French version with subtitles so maybe I will look at it again.

I doubt, like many films and shows I watch, that you will find this everywhere but those who live in Ottawa, anywhere in Quebec or any Francophone part of Canada should be able to find this somewhere at Loblaws. For $1 it is at least 5 times worth it's price.
