Our week of exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers we're thankful for this year continues on MTV Movies with "Moon" star Sam Rockwell — who also happens to have a big role in next year's much-anticipated "Iron Man 2" as billionaire weapons dealer Justin Hammer.
Last time we spoke with Rockwell, he told us about his character's involvement in the creation of the War Machine armor, as well as his sources of inspiration for the character (hint: they weren't found in the comics). This time around, Rockwell followed up discussion of potential Oscar buzz surrounding his role in the indie sci-fi flick "Moon" with a bit more insight into "Iron Man 2" production.
"On 'Frost/Nixon' or 'Green Mile,' we all felt like, 'This is a big deal!' On 'Iron Man [2],' it did feel like a big deal at first, but we got very comfortable very quickly, »

With Oscar buzz for his performance in 'Moon' and 'Iron Man 2' on the way, Rockwell has a lot to be thankful for.

Was there a more inventive performance in 2009 than Sam Rockwell's in "Moon"? Or, we should say, the performances of the many, many Sam Rockwells who show up in this sci-fi mind-bender about outer space, isolation and technology? The actor took a risk with first-time director Duncan Jones and the gamble paid off big time: The movie was one of the coolest of the year and Rockwell has rightly been mentioned as a potential Oscar candidate.
So MTV News must express our gratitude during this week in which we are giving thanks to the best films and brightest performances of the year. But when it comes to Rockwell, we're also thankful for a movie we haven't seen yet: "Iron Man 2, »

Amid a summer of explosive spectacle - there can barely be a stick of dynamite left unlit in Hollywood - David Bowie's son Duncan Jones surprised everyone with his directorial debut: An old-school sci-fi film called Moon.
Made for just $5million by Liberty Films and released by Sony Pictures Classics, Moon lands on DVD and Blu-ray next Monday, November 16. The new website for the film has now gone live (and you can see it here).
This psychological drama - which was on a limited theatrical release - stars Sam Rockwell (Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, Frost/Nixon) and features the voice of Kevin Spacey as a computer called Gerty.
Rockwell is Sam Bell, a Lunar Industries worker supervising the mechanical extraction of the clean fuel helium-3 from rocks on the surface of the moon.
Bell is nearing the end of a solitary three-year contract during which he has been »

In celebration of Criterion's deluxe double-dvd and Blu-ray treatment of Wings of Desire, my Benten Films partner-in-crime Andrew Grant and I rewatched Wim Wenders' 1987 masterpiece (and pored over the bonus features) to discuss the film's elusive magic and why a work so specific to East-West German tensions has aged so gracefully. Andrew reminisces about spending time in Berlin around the era of the production, with other topics of conversation including They Might Be Giants, Nick Cave's inner thoughts, Peter Falk's unconscious plot hole, a rather unfortunate sequel, and how Wings of Desire almost ended with an pie fight. If you haven't already absorbed its pleasures (or, god forbid, you only know its atrocious H'wood remake, City of Angels), here's the Criterion synopsis: Wings of Desire is one of cinema's loveliest city symphonies. Bruno Ganz is Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts—fears, »

Hosted by Katy Perry, 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards has just been wrapped. In the main categories, Beyonce Knowles dominated the winners list with three gongs, two of which were for Best Song and Best Female.
In Best Song, Beyonce's "Halo" beat such hit singles as Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling", David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over", Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and Lady GaGa's "Poker Face". For Best Female meanwhile, she dethroned Katy, Leona Lewis, Shakira and pushed aside Lady GaGa once again.
Beyonce collected her third trophy at the event for Best Video. Her famous "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" video won over Eminem's "We Made You", Britney Spears' "Circus", Katy's "Waking Up in Vegas" and Shakira's "She Wolf". During her acceptance speech, she managed to thank her husband Jay-z who grabbed Best Urban for "putting a ring on it."
As for Jay-z, »

Simon Pegg came a little late to the "Unseen Prequels" meme that's been bouncing around Twitter this week, but I stuck his "Star Wars" proposal along with Jon Favreau's submission up at the top of the list today just the same.
Also discovering a trend late today appears to be "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli, who's been exploring new Bluetooth headset technology. He and his "Eclipse" director David Slade show up in the Twitter-Wood report today, as does Facinelli's co-star Alex Meraz. Check out their posts after the jump, along with some more Pixar costumes from Lee Unkrich, and an M.I.A. performance caught by Nicky Hilton during the Jimmy Choo shoe debut for H&M. It all happened in Twitter-Wood, and it's in the report for November 3, 2009.

The director of this year's sci-fi release Moon has spoken about his influences for the film and revealed what projects he has lined up next.
Duncan Jones is attached to helm a Second World War submarine drama called From The Deep, but he isn't done with science fiction just yet.
As his next film, he's aiming to make what he calls a love letter to one of the genre's all-time classics.
Moon, released in the Us in June and in the UK a month later, was Jones' feature film debut and received largely positive reviews. Films fans appreciated it for easing off on the pedal of CGI visual dazzle and delivering a more thoughtful story without the bang-bang-boom of films such as Transformers.
Made for $5million, it brought in just $6.56million worldwide, partly due to its limited release. Clearly this was never intended to be an explosive summer blockbuster.

Like an American version of Michael Apted's Up series, the thirteen-year collaboration between Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau has produced a revealing look at the different stages of becoming a Hollywood player. Their 1996 debut, Swingers, hummed with the restless energy of young wannabes ready for their close-up, and when Hollywood subsequently offered the duo all the perks and shortfalls of the spotlight, the newly cynical sensibility it engendered ran a corrosive streak through their 2001 reunion, Made. The two men have seen their careers dip and stage a mighty comeback in the years since, and in their latest collaboration, the island comedy A Guitar Hero Commercial, we get an unpretty look at the fatty nonchalance of a newly minted Hollywood A-lister. »

At last night's Chicago premiere of Couples Retreat, star Malin Ackerman (Watchmen) said she had a preconceived notion of Vaughn and frequent collaborator Jon Favreau, and they didn't meet it.
Everyone has that idea of the single-and-crazy Vince and Jon in Swingers and Made, but I think they've grown up a little. They're still a little crazy ... but they're definitely a little more subdued.
As big fans of Swingers and Made who were considering seeing Couples Retreat over the weekend, we're not very happy about this news.

No matter how many hit films he produces, Peter Billingsley will always be remembered as Ralphie from A Christmas Story. .You.ll shoot your eye out. still echoes in our minds today. Now add directing to his credits, as he makes his debut with Couples Retreat.
Billingsley Directs Couples Retreat
.The transition for me was a lot easier than I think maybe for most making that leap because I was never the guy that did five movies a year,. Billingsley said. .As a producer, I would really work for a long time on each film. So I was very fortunate as a first timer to really inherit that type of a partnership. There.s really no one smarter and funnier that I.ve ever met than Vince. I.ve really been fortunate to have collaborated with Vince for a long time and with John as well. I.ve known Vince »

Couples Retreat, the latest comedy from Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, follows four couples on a tropical vacation where they are forced to participate in the resort's therapy sessions. The idea was conceived by Vaughn, who brought Favreau on to help him write the script. Vaughn and Malin Akerman (Watchmen) spoke to ComingSoon about the movie, with Akerman revealing that having a script didn't keep Vaughn and Favreau from improvising constantly.
Yes. I think there was so much improv that we could probably do a whole other film on the side, but it was great. That was sort of some of the fun parts where you have your character, your intention, your goal for the scene and then it was really cool working with these guys because of the improv. I always love it. I think it's so much fun and so great. Although, once him and Jon start you're like, »

Couples Retreat is coming to give all married couples a jolt of comedic therapy. Vince Vaughn headlines the film and it also stars Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Kristen Bell and Malin Akerman.
Nick Allen talked about the trailer for Couples Retreat back in July.
Jason Bateman is coming off the comedy Extract and here he talks about getting to have his character created just for him.
Jon Favreau has now been in six movies with his buddy Vince Vaughn (including this one) … can you name them all? I list them at the bottom of this post so you don’t have to be driven crazy.
If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve seen the uncomfortable yoga scene. Kristen Bell talks about it here.
You’ll recognize Malin Akerman from either The Proposal and 27 Dresses (if you’re a girl) or Watchmen (if you’re a guy).

I like to pride myself on having a pretty good memory for classic films, but man, my powers of recollection are nothing up against a dedicated film fan by the name of whoiseyevan. A couple of weeks ago I brought you his reworked Ghostbusters trailer as a 1954 classic starring Bob Hope and Dean Martin, and now he's back at work making trailers for Raiders of the Lost Ark and Forrest Gump as if they had been made in the Golden Age of Hollywood.
First up is Raiders, which was an ode to adventure serials of the '30's, but for the remake we've jumped ahead about thirty years. Now, it stars Charlton Heston as Dr. Jones, Anthony Quinn as Sallah, and the great Peter Lorre as everyone's favorite melty-face Nazi, Toht. Once again, you have to marvel at whoiseyevan's ability to find the perfect clips, and if you're as familiar with Raiders as I am, »

First of, have I told you how much I love this film? It's Super-funny! But, the greatest comedies have underlying tones of despair, and the characters in "The Goods" certainly have lots of those, hence, the funnies :happy
Make it the super funnies!
From the folks who gave us "Talladega Nights" and "Stepbrothers," "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" is one of the best comedies of the summer, perhaps the year!
Directed by Neil Brennan from the script by Andy Stock and Rick Stempson, this film ain't a clunker! Paramount has great timing with the whole Cash for Clunkers program.
You'll find a new, perhaps, respect for used car salesman! "The Goods" opens this Friday, Aug. 14th, so don't miss it!
So I attended the press junket for "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" and sat down with the cast. Here they are (click on pictures to see video): »

If you were at Comic-Con this past weekend, you may have seen the dazzling “Iron Man 2” footage that included War Machine in battle and that iconic red-and-yellow suit soaring through the sky while dodging explosions.
It sure was impressive work from Jon Favreau, a man who came up in indie films like “Swingers” and “Made,” and not too long ago raised geek concerns with his appointment since the only big-budget film he’d ever made was “Zathura.” Recently, we caught up with the director on the set of “Iron Man 2,” and he was eager to talk about how much the first film had taught him about blending the two worlds.
“The trick is really integrating them well,” he said of CGI stuff vs. the footage he was able to shoot on the set. “We actually have shot more with a practical suit this time than we did last time, »
