Jesus, they're really desperate aren't they?, 7 August 2003
Author: strangerzero from united states

Halloween: Resurrection (2002) is of course the eighth film in the Halloween series, although part 3 didn't really count. Anyway, when I first heard of this I thought one simple thought: Jesus, they're really desperate aren't they? The Halloween has finally hit bottom, going beyond the point of any redemption. This film is horribly cliche and predictable, but here's the story anyway:

We are told exactly how Michael Myers (Brad Loree) escaped from his presumable death in the previous film. Apparently, he snatched a paramedic and broke his vocal chords, making him mute. Michael then put his mask on the unfortunate medic and leaves the school while Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) beheads the wrong person. Laurie is now in a mental hospital, awaiting the return of her murderous brother. Not surprisingly Michael shows up to finally kill her, but Laurie puts up a good fight. But, Michael tricks Laurie and finally kills her. After years he finally completes his mission. We then discover that Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes) and his girlfriend Nora (Tyra Banks) have decided to host a special event for this year's halloween: locking six ordinary people in the house of Michael Myers. The cliche and bland six contestants are Sara (Bianca Kajlich), Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas), Jen (Katee Sackhoff), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Jim (Luke Kirby), and Donna (Daisy McCrackin). So the kids are locked in the house, wearing hand-held video-cameras to keep track of whatever they do. Most people can watch via the internet what the contestants see, thus the cause of the cameras. There are also randomly placed cameras throughout the house. Unknown to the contestants, Freddie has rigged the house with several scares and tricks. Of course unknown to everyone is that Michael is in the house, and to make matters more confusing is the fact that Freddie has dressed exactly like Michael to scare everyone. Watching through the internet is Myles (Ryan Merriman), who's also known as Deckard. Myles and Sara are actually internet boyfriend-girlfriend and have never met in person. Myles communicates with her through her hand-held organizer. Meanwhile, Jim and Donna are looking for a good place to have sex, Rudy just wants to eat, and Bill wants to have sex with Jen (who constantly teases him). Needless to say Michael then begins to kill the contestants and it's up to Myles to lead Sara safely through the house and somehow put a stop to Michael.

The deaths and scares are surprisingly lame. Most scares are loud noises, with nearly all of them seen a mile away. The deaths weren't even decent. The decapitations are not scary and are actually pretty funny, which isn't a good thing. The story tries to give the series a hip twist to it by having the victims wearing cameras, but too many bad memories of "The Blair Witch Project" come into mind instead. The film looks like a long music video, and all of the actors are expendable. Especially Busta Rhymes. And unfortunately, the ending leaves room for yet another sequel featuring this particularly silent killer. What happened to the series? O well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Halloween 9 will be decent.

So bottom line: if you're a teeny-bopper or if you enjoy terribly cliche modern horror movies, then this one's for you! Otherwise, you should see something else that has some substance and originality. I give Halloween: Resurrection (2002) a 3 out of 10.
