Trivia:
A print of this film, long believed lost, was found by German film archivists in Russia in July 2004. Until then, the only known existing Laurel and Hardy film with the comic duo speaking all their dialogue in German was the German trailer for this film. This was originally advertised as Laurel and Hardy's first German movie with sound, and it was a big success, with jokes written specifically for a German audience. The Munich Film Museum will restore the film for screening and a future DVD release. It will be shown at the Bonn Silent Film Festival on August 14, 2004. moreFAQ

"Spuk um Mitternacht" is very interesting in the German version because the gags were adapted for the German market. The technical quality of the Moscow print is well so far even though a part of the film is still missing.
In Bonn SUM was shown with added English scenes or scenes from the Spanish version without German subtitles.
Laurel & Hardy's German is hard to understand sometimes because of their tough accent. Furthermore they don't play as "relaxed" as in the English version. Anyway it's historically interesting to see them in German.
