IMDb > Naked Pavement (1998) > Plot Summary

Spencer Tunick began his path of staged public nude exhibitions by shooting single-person setups all over New York City, and then other parts of the world. When his list of volunteers exceeded his imagination for more one-person setups, he decided to channel his efforts into one massive shoot in front of the United Nations. Thirty people showed up for that infamous shoot and Spencer saw a new body of work emerging. Following the successful execution of his UN shoot, Spencer decided that bigger was indeed better and began a much more ambitious undertaking 100 people or more! He printed up and handed out over 1,000 invitations for his next "happening" and for his efforts 110 people showed up. Naked Pavement is a documentary that delves into the phenomena that are these massive collections of nude bodies on the streets of New York City; an investigation into the exciting, and quite stressful art of Spencer Tunick.
