Great indie flick. The dialogue is "right on" and the acting is first rate. The soundtrack perfectly fits the action too. The cinematography is stunning and crystal clear. The seedy characters really help bring the story to life. I can see the Bad Lieutenant similarities. It's that intense. A definite throwback to the films of the 40's and 50's. The lead actor has the screen presence of a young Robert Mitchum or Alan Ladd. Other indie films like Clerks were barely entertaining compared to Loanshark's incredible realism and on the move film-making. Very good use of local Hollywood locations too. I recognized many buildings and streets. I look forward to seeing more films from the filmmaker.
