Directed by and starring Raoul Walsh, this early short feature was a detective story that started with subtle, natural acting and effective editing in a tinted 35 mm print that has been painstakingly restored from a 28mm source by the George Eastman House. Only after the star had to go in disguise as an old man to see the `head swami' at a Hindu hide-out did things get a little corny as strings could be seen yanking perilous rubber snakes out of a basket. Still it was fun and better than most films I've seen from the pre-Birth of a Nation days of film history. Co-starring Dark Cloud and Eagle Eye. The Hindu setting of the film blended in nicely with the Indo-Persian style of the Landmark Theatre! Jon Mirsalis on piano. Thank god for film festivals like this one that make rare films like this available and the folks who provide comments to IMDB for others to share. Please support the IMDB and early film festivals!
