New It’s Complicated Trailer and Poster: Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin

7 November 2009 10:03 AM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Universal has just debuted a new trailer and poster for romantic comedy “It’s Complicated“

Writer/director Nancy Meyers (What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday) directs Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin in” It’s Complicated,” a comedy about love, divorce and everything in between.

Jane (Streep) is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has—after a decade of divorce—an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake (Baldwin). But when Jane and Jake find themselves out of town for their son’s college graduation, things start to get complicated. An innocent meal together turns into the unimaginable—an affair. With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness (Lake Bell), Jane is now, of all things, the other woman. Caught in the middle of their renewed romance is Adam (Martin), an architect hired to remodel Jane’s kitchen. »

It’s Complicated Trailer: Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin Get It On

5 November 2009 6:22 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Alec Baldwin is randomly crying. Meryl Streep is a little bit of a slut. Steve Martin, still crazy. And writer/director Nancy Meyers -- purveyor of such estrogen-infused classics as What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday -- is back again for another round of romcom with It's Complicated. This time, she's taking the story of a divorced woman (Streep) who starts having a fling with her fast-talking ex-husband (Baldwin), even though he's now married to a younger woman (Lake Bell) and she's got a thing with her architect (Steve Martin). It's all very derivative -- the kind of romantic comedy you take with a dose of promethazine (via suppository, of course) for your arthritis. You know, the ultimate sequel to Meyers' Mel Gibson collaboration, What Old People Want. Alas, there is no doubt that Alec Baldwin will be his stock brand of hilarious and Meryl Streep will be her stock brand of graceful, classy »

The 'What Women Want' star - whose girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva gave birth on Friday (30.10.09) - has announced the couple plan to call the infant Lucia.

Mel Gibson's Scotland fears

31 October 2009 2:03 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Mel Gibson thinks Scotland would make him get drunk.

Mel - a recovering alcoholic who was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in 1984 and 2006 - said he hasn't been back to the UK country since shooting 'Braveheart' in 1995 because he fears it would have a damaging effect on him .

He said: "I haven't gone back since because I'm afraid. I'd never get sober for one thing, and to have to run around in a dress... it's cold up there!"

Despite his reluctance to return, the 53-year-old 'What Women Want' star admits Scotland still holds a special place in his heart.

He added: "On the way to the premiere in Scotland the crowd was 50-deep and I couldn't believe there was so much feeling and fervour about the subject. It hit a chord, definitely."

Cameron Diaz in ‘What Women Want’ Sequel

29 October 2009 6:47 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Cameron Diaz is attached to star in What Men Want, a sequel of sorts to 2000’s What Women Want starring Mel Gibson.

Pajiba, who seems to be on fire lately with the exclusives, reports that Diaz is tentatively set for the lead role while the script is completed. Pete Chiarelli (The Proposal) is writing the screenplay.

The Gibson movie, which also starred Helen Hunt, made $374 million worldwide and is still the second largest romantic comedy of all time in the U.S. (behind My Big Fat Greek Wedding).

Though further details are unknown at this point, it will likely be the original’s premise with a little gender-reversal.  Lightning strikes and suddenly Diaz can hear men’s thoughts and understand what they want.  How she’ll be able to leave the house without being greeted by a cacophony of “you” and other lewd ideas remains to be seen.

Cameron Diaz Remaking Mel Gibson's What Women Want?

29 October 2009 12:21 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Early last week we told you about a new teen comedy being planned by New Line here which sounded a lot like a gender reversed version of the Mel Gibson rom-com What Women Want. Now let.s take that notion one step further because Pajiba claims there really is a sequel to What Women Want in the works and it.ll star Cameron Diaz. According to their source Peter Chiarelli, who wrote The Proposal, is currently penning What Men Want, .a reimagining of What Women Want set in the workplace.. They say Cameron Diaz is attached to play the lead, which would mean she.s the new Mel Gibson. What Women Want starred Mel Gibson as a man who found that he could suddenly hear the thoughts of all the women around him. Hilarity and romance inevitably ensued as he began to understand the way women work. So for the »

The Good, The Bad And The Wtf: Let's Exploit Dead People

25 October 2009 6:24 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Welcome to an oversized edition of "The Good, The Bad and the Wtf," to make up for last week's absence. This time, we take a look at X-Men updates, a Turtles buyout, David Spade's shamelessness, a Michael Jackson controversy and how Denzel Washington is allegedly the worst person on Earth.

The Good

• Talking to Empire mag, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner updates fans on the status of future X-Men projects. Good news for those of you who were pissed off by Wolverine's treatment of Deadpool, because this is what Donner said about the proposed Deadpool movie:

I want to ignore the version of Deadpool that we saw in Wolverine and just start over again. Reboot it. Because this guy talks, obviously, and to muzzle him would be insane.

Cue collective sighs of relief.

New Line to Remake 'What Women Want' for Kids

21 October 2009 6:53 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I could have lived to be 1,000 and would never have guessed that a studio would not only remake What Women Want but that the studio making the decision would teen up the whole affair and call it What Boys Want. Can we be far away from an equal and opposite reaction leading to a poorly conceived book adaptation called Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret Thatcher?

New Line is the studio taking the Mel Gibson-Helen Hunt hit and putting in high school. It will reportedly star someone called Selena Gomez, and though I don't recognize her name, her show The Wizards of Waverly Place rings a bell. However, Gomez is already something of a power broker, I guess. She's got a production company and already has a deal in place to develop at least two films she'll star in and produce. And she's 17.

What Women Want gets a Horrid Quasi-Remake

20 October 2009 10:17 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The generally funny and awesome romantic comedy What Women Want (you know, the one that starred Mel Gibson) was a huge success back in the day, earning a ton of cash for New Line Cinema. So with this being the age of the remakes, it is...you guessed it, getting remade! The movie, which is only about 9-10 years old, starred Gibson as this advertising big shot that after a freak accident in his bathroom -- involving a ton of womens products and him electrocuting himself -- started to be able to hear what women were thinking when they came close to him. Well, the remake, or quasi-remake really, will take that general concept and teen it up, turning it into your typical Disney "comedy" about life, love and friendship mixed in with some singing and dancing. The new movie will be called What Boys Want and will feature 17-year-old Selena Gomez, »

Does New Line Really Know ‘What Boys Want’?

20 October 2009 10:37 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

In 2000, Mel Gibson starred in Paramount Pictures romantic comedy What Women Want. After a freak accident, Gibson’s character becomes able to hear every thought of any woman. The film was run with the tagline of “Finally…a man is listening,”and did decently at the theater.

Well, apparently New Line Cinema thought the idea of a character being able to hear the thoughts of the opposite sex was a pretty good plot line, as they’re taking on a comedy flick titled — ever so cleverly — What Boys Want. Aside from the obvious similarity in title, the movie revolves around a girl who can, you guessed it, hear what men are thinking.

There’s no question that Hollywood doesn’t always have the freshest ideas come out for movies, and that plots have a tendency to get recycled with one or two details being tweaked to make the new story »

Selena Gomez Knows What Boys Want

20 October 2009 10:11 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When Mel Gibson could hear What Women Want back at the beginning of the decade, it amounted to things about relationships and food and the kind of generic revelations that show up in any number of commercials. Harmless, right? Now take that situation and reverse it, and instead of Mel Gibson, have a pretty teenage girl capable of hearing men's thoughts. Yikes. But for some reason New Line thinks this is a perfectly appropriate setup for a teen comedy, setting Disney star Selena Gomez to star in What Boys Want, which in the title alone sounds like a horrible "barely legal" magazine you'd see at a truck stop. Variety write that Gomez's mother Mandy Teefey will produce, which may at least help keep things out of the inappropriate realm. Then again, Miley Cyrus is handled by her parents as well, and we've all seen how that has turned out. »

Casting Notes: Selena Gomez in Teen Rom Com; The Social Network Gets New Kids; The Whistleblower Gets Proven Talent

20 October 2009 9:01 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Here's a few casting notes for you before Page 2 hits. First up is What Boys Want, a teen-skewed reversal of the 2000 Mel Gibson film What Women Want. Selena Gomez will star as a girl who can hear what men are thinking. Reports that the film will just be Gomez hiding in a closet for two hours may be unfounded, but you can see where the rumor might come from. I don't know much about Selena Gomez, and you should consider that a good thing. I'm in my 30s with no kids, so the only reason for me to know much about a coiffed-up Disney Channel star is that I write stories like these. So I can't offer much context about this one other than to say it doesn't sound anything like material for a teen-skewed comedy. New Line Think They Know What Boys Want – They Don’t

20 October 2009 5:11 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

2000’s What Women Want was admittedly, a very enjoyable film. The mix of Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt onscreen was magic and the idea that for once men would be able to truly understand women was an idea that appealed to all of my female friends instantly.

That does not, however, give New Line Cinema, Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer carte blanche to play with the idea. Turning the “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” premise into a prepubescent “fluffy” outing is not my idea of a decent followup but then again – nobody asked me did they?

Moaning aside, New Line have indeed green lit What Boys Want, which as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, sees a teenage girl develop the unique ability to hear what the boys in school are thinking. The unfortunate thing about this (in my view) is that most boys of that »

New Line Cinema's has picked up "What Boys Want," a comedy pitch from Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer. Selena Gomez is apparently in talks to star as a teenage girl who can hear what men think. Mel Gibson starred in "What Women Want" back in 2000 and, after an accident, was able to hear women's thoughts. The seventeen-year-old has made a big fan following from her role in the Disney Channel's "The Wizards of Waverly Place."
