Trivia:
Screenwriter John Hughes is credited (for "characters created by") as "Edmond Dantès". Dantes is the central character in "The Count of Monte Cristo" and is the same credit John Hughes had on Beethoven (1992) and Beethoven's 2nd (1993). moreGoofs:
Continuity: When Beethoven broke free from the camper's mirror in which he was tied to, in the next scene, when Beethoven is running to Brennon's aid, you can then see in the background that the mirror on the camper is still intact, as if it were never broken off. moreFAQ

The original cast has jumped ship and taken with them every last ounce of charm. Minus the good-natured humour, sunny atmosphere and believable chemistry of the first two films, this sequel instead brings in Judge Reinhold to lead a rusty rerun of those Chevy Chase 'Vacation' films. This is a dire, hopeless film, it really is: a bargain basement comedy that scratches desperately in the dirt for laughs and comes up empty-handed. Repetitious scenes with a couple of crooks trying to steal a DVD and getting chased by Beethoven raise not a smile, and a sequence where the family visit Sumoworld, a theme park in which fat wrestlers wear cowboy hats is just flat out baffling. Fart gags and a tacky score add to the comedy vacuum, while several plugs for 'The Land Before Time VI' drive home its status as a hollow cash-in. Utter dreck. Amazingly, 'Beethoven's 4th' is even worse.
