A droll, engaging caper about a couple on the cusp of middle age, who meet by chance, when he flies from JFK to SFO for "Just One Night".
He (a professor) is in town to give a speech the next morning, and then fly back to New York in time to get married late that afternoon. She is looking for a means of escape from her nattily attired, but thuggish husband.
A case of mistaken identity and a lost shoe lead to encounters with a string of slightly whacky but engaging San Francisco denizens. Along the way, the protagonists rediscover the importance of being in the moment.
I had to see it a second time before I recognized all the symbolic loops and tie-ins, and they made the wonderful performances all the more enjoyable. I think this movie is so good that you will get more out of it every time you see it.
