Each decade of celluloid is defined by its psychological preoccupations. Oh yes it is, don’t look at me like that. The 9/11 terror attacks on New York and Washington cast a long shadow over the first decade of the 21st century. The Nineties had been a relatively stable and optimistic era by comparison and was all the more moribund for it. Tom Sizemore’s speech in Katherine Bigelow’s Strange Days (1995) summed up the emerging consensus – “everything’s been done, every kind of music’s been tried, every government’s been tried, every fuckin’ hairstyle. How you gonna make it another thousand years, for Chrissake?”
But it wasn’t quite the end of history after all. After 9/11 the zeitgeist became politically-charged once more as it had been in more polarised times. Entertainment was not immune from this effect, nor could it afford to be. With rare exceptions such as Paul Greengrass »

Pottermania, Tolkein-mania, Twilight-mania…it’s fair to say that the noughties have been a strong one for different kinds of mania. Moreover, it’s also been the time for some pretty awesome movies. 2000 marked a particularly promising start: American Beauty, the directorial debut from Sam Mendes was a unique critique on the American dream that attracted widespread acclaim, being nominated for 8 Academy Awards and winning 5; including Best Picture. His next project, Road to Perdition proved this success to be no fluke. Apparently this was a good time for new directors, as further evidenced by Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, and Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. Not that the decade was limited to low-budget concept flicks. Box office-smashing comic book adaptations became the name of the game; ranging from the great (Spider-Man, X-Men and Hellboy), to the not so much (Daredevil and Fantastic Four). It became (almost) socially acceptable »

Ice-t had some harsh words for Bill O'Reilly today in his Twitter feed following O'Reilly's displeasure on Fox News regarding this week's episode of "Law & Order: Svu." In addition to dropping an F-bomb a few hours ago, the actor expressed his full support for writer Dick Wolf, who O'Reilly lashed out at for using his name in an unflattering manner on the show.
Elsewhere in Twitter-Wood, "Eclipse" director David Slade came out of hiding with an update on how the film is coming along. In addition to revealing a composer will be selected shortly, he characterized the way he wants Edward, Bella and Jacob to appear. Check out those posts after the jump along with Andy Milonakis' favorite new Android app and shot of Denise Richards' tattoo. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for December 11, 2009.

After his initial breakout in the '90s with Bottle Rocket and Rushmore, Wes Anderson went into the beginning of this decade riding high on critical acclaim and ready to break into the mainstream. For his third feature film, he would deliver his most ambitious and emotionally complex project to date: The Royal Tenenbaums. A massive cast jam-packed with talented actors that had largely been forgotten (Gene Hackman, Danny Glover, Anjelica Huston, Bill Murray), along with some current stars (Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller), and a few familiar faces from Anderson's previous films (Kumar Pallana), made for an amazing ensemble of characters based loosely on J.D. Salinger's Glass family. Some have called this Wes Anderson's ultimate masterpiece, and while I don't entirely agree, there is a lot to appreciate in this melancholy yet darkly comedic tale of a dysfunctional family trying to sort itself out. Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry
List # 1
By Alex Simon
When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.
1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah. »

Rising star Johann Urb -- the son of actor-musician Tarmo Urb and his wife -- was born on January 24, 1977, in Tallinn, Estonia. He moved to Finland at age ten and New York City by the time he turned seventeen. Explaining his globe-trotting, Urb told Starpulse Entertainment that "I came to visit my dad who had moved here with my uncle (actor Toomas Urb). They defected from the Soviet Union and got political asylum. My dad spent years in jail and mental asylums because he had a band in Estonia and was singing about a lot of stuff that the Kgb wasn't too happy about. I came to visit and stayed for a month, really loved it, and I came back when I was 17. I was supposed to visit again, but at the end of the trip, my dad asked me if I wanted to stay here. It was like, 'Hell, »

The Anchorman actor has claimed his greatest ambition would be to portray the X Factor and American Idol judge on the big screen
Some might say the past couple of years have proven fallow ground for Will Ferrell compared to early successes in the likes of Anchorman and Zoolander, but the Us comic may just have rediscovered his mojo. In an interview in today's Sun he touts himself as the perfect choice to play Simon Cowell in a biopic of the reality TV kingpin.
Ferrell claimed, possibly tongue in cheek, that it was biggest ambition was to play the creator of X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, who also appears on American Idol in the Us.
"I would love to play Simon Cowell in a movie - heck I would love it," he said. "It would be my dream role. He's become a legend in five years. Nobody in the »

To celebrate their 20th birthday, Empire Magazine invited a whole ton of actors and actresses to ever-so-briefly reprise their most iconic roles for a pretty cool photo shoot. Curious to see what Arnold Schwarzenegger would look like now if he donned those famous black sunglasses and threw on his best badass pose for a photo in front of a motorcycle? Or what about wanting to see Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster reunited for the first time since the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs?
Other cool photo ops include Mel Gibson wearing face paint in honor of Braveheart, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost looking back at Shaun of the Dead, Christian Bale returning to his American Psycho days, Ben Stiller showing us all that Zoolander totally deserves a sequel, Gerard Butler giving us his best 300 roar, Laurence Fishburne calling back Morpheus and more. It's a pretty cool idea, even if Tom Cruise »

Dakota Fanning who plays the tiny but evil vampire Jane in The Twilight Saga New Moon is the covergirl for this months issue of Teen Vogue magazine. In the new issue theres a gorgeous new photo shoot as well as an interview where Dakota discusses everything from her role as Jane to her close friendship with costar Kristen Stewart and much more. Certainly Dakotas role in the Twilight sequel didnt seem to present too much of an acting challenge. As Jane a pintsize Volturi vampire who possesses the power to cause pain without even touching her victims she kind of just looked at people. Asked how she prepared Dakota laughs. I wasnt in my mirror like Zoolander doing the Blue Steel! she says. The red contacts were enough. The actress was drawn to the project for pretty much the same reason any teen would be It sounded like fun. I »

Dakota Fanning got all dressed up for the upcoming December/January issue of Teen Vogue. She isn't the first member of the film's cast to appear on the cover of the magazine, after Taylor Lautner's turn a few months ago. Dakota had a busy weekend at their press conference in La, where we got lots of amazing one-on-one time with the cast - more of that to follow. She found time recently to sit down and open up about growing up in Hollywood and joining the Twilight gang. Kristen Stewart even weighed in about working with Dakota. Here's more: On prepping for her role in New Moon: "I wasn’t in my mirror like Zoolander, doing Blue Steel! The red contacts were enough. I read all four Twilight books in one week. It’s such a phenomenon and I wanted to be able to be a part of that. »

The Wilson brothers, Luke and Andrew are set to co-direct a 48 Hours-type buddy comedy about two reporters called Electric Avenue. But wait: We all know Luke and Owen Wilson - who’s this Andrew character?
While Andrew could be considered the least famous Wilson brother (sans the infamous Gummo and Zeppo Wilson), he’s been consistently acting for over twenty years and has had roles in such films as Rushmore (Coach Beck), Zoolander (Hansel’s Corner Guy), Idiocracy (Beef Supreme) and now plays Razor in the upcoming Drew Barrymore directed, Whip It.
This won’t be the Wilson Brothers first foray into directing. Their first co-directing venture came with the 2005 film, The Wendell Baker Story, which Luke Wilson wrote. If your interests have yet to be piqued, maybe this casting teaser will help.

Now, brothers Luke and Andrew are all set to direct together again. Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz while promoting "Whip It," Andrew revealed the first details on "Electric Avenue.

Don’t fret. This isn’t Gavin’s first fling with acting. He’s been in How to Rob a Bank, Zoolander, Constantine & The Mayor of Sunset Strip. Constantine… oh good, something I’ve seen!
Criminal Minds on CBS, premieres on September 23rd at 9 p.m. I can’t wait. This, is a Bruce Fave!

Here's an unusual combination: Gavin Rossdale and Criminal Minds. But the two shall meet this November when the British rocker and sometime-thespian guest stars on the CBS procedural. Rossdale will play a Goth rock star who may or may not be moonlighting as — what else? — a brutal serial killer. Rossdale's previous acting work has mostly been limited to the big screen. In addition to co-starring in the 2007 Nick Stahl-Erika Christensen heist flick How to Rob a Bank, Gwen Stefani's other half has appeared in Zoolander, Constantine, and The Mayor of Sunset Strip. The Movie: Paul Rudd and Jason Segel jump into something together that doesnt have Judd Apatow’s name on it anywhere…and they come out like champs! John Hamburg hasnt done a whole lot in the directors chair, but he did churn out a pretty funny ‘Along Came Polly’ which he also wrote and worked on Apatow’s ‘Undeclared’. Hamburg also helped write the ‘Meet the Parents’ films, and ‘Zoolander’ which put him in the good graces of Ben Stiller.
The film is about Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd), a 30 something real estate agent that just got engaged to his girlfriend Zooey Rice (played by the brilliant Rashida Jones). When it comes time for them to call their friends and family to break the news she quickly realizes that Peter doesnt have any close guy friends. He is the romantic, thoughtful guy that is always looking out for her best interests »
