Boasts a great, all-star kiwi cast. Remember the blond, dredded pothead who drives the Mr. Trippy van in Snakeskin? She plays Ziggy, the main actress in I'll Make You Happy. The title refers to her desire to take care of her depressed and socially withdrawn roommate, Lester, who is also her long lost father, although he doesn't know that until near the end of the film. His dream is to travel to Tibet and live with the mountain monks. Ziggy is already having to moonlight to pay for his expensive taste in pharmaceuticals, but is determined to make him happy. Micheal Hurst and Jennifer Ward-Lealand of Desperate Remedies fame are transformed hilariously from high-class, wealthy snobs to streetwise hooker and greasy pimp respectively. Rena Owen has a small role as another of the tough working girls, including some down and dirty dancing with Jennifer W-L's character. Even Lucy Lawless (Xena) makes a special appearance (fobbed off and rejected on the street by the obnoxious pimp, Lou). Negative aspect is that it's set in Auckland (atmospheric black-hole). The story is fairy tale-like in its convenience and rather far-fetched happy ending -but its a nice change from the depressingly downbeat usual.
