I'd like you to meet your best friend

It was the opening day of the Disney-mgm studios in Orlando. The stars were there with their children. There was an official luncheon at the Brown Derby, modeled after the legendary Hollywood eatery. I was beside myself. I was in a booth sitting next to Jack Brickhouse, the voice of the Chicago Cubs. A man walked over and introduced himself. "Bob Elliott." Oh. My. God. Bob, of Bob and Ray.

For me he was the biggest star in the room. Who, after all, compared to even one half of Bob and Ray, was Tom Hanks? Whoopi Goldberg? Art Linklater? "Gosh all whillikers, Mr. Science!" I said, "What's that long brown object???" Bob didn't miss a beat: "That's known as a board, Roger."

Another man was steaming toward us through the throng. A middle-aged man, well-dressed, tanned, with a pleasant smile. "Hi, Jack!" he said. "Say, I hear Ernie Banks is invited. »

Sarah Palin's Rogue Memoir Neutralizes "The Washington Read"

13 November 2009 8:40 AM, PST | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

Of all the capital city’s quaint and tribal customs, none may be more singular than the phenomenon known as “The Washington Read.” This is the process in which buyers (or browsers) of the latest books about politics and government turn instantly to the index, and read first—and perhaps only—the parts about themselves. True to form, Sarah Palin has confounded the Washington political establishment yet again: Her new memoir, Going Rogue, is being published next week—without an index! So people who want to find whether Palin has praised or buried them will have to read the whole thing, or at least skim its 413 pages. The excerpts leaked to date are interesting, but hardly shocking. We learn that Palin felt muzzled by the McCain campaign, and would have liked to be herself with the press. But we knew that more or less in real time, didn’t we? »

By the People, Poliwood: Bittersweet look at 2008 election

30 October 2009 4:01 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

A year later, it's a bittersweet experience watching Amy Rice and Alicia Sams' documentary, By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, which premieres at 9Pm Tuesday (11.03.09) on HBO. (Also depressing: There was a time in the not-so-distant past when a film like this - with this kind of access to a successful presidential campaign - would have been a theatrical release.) Starting on Election Night 2006, the film follows then-Sen. Barack Obama as he launches his presidential campaign, winning the nomination and the election after overcoming a field of better-known opponents - including the all-but-coronated Hillary Rodham Clinton - and a skeptical press corps that regularly predicted his collapse. The film goes from the 2006 election ("Are you going to run for president?") to Iowa in 2007 and on to the Iowa caucuses, continues through the primaries, then carries him through... »

First Lady Michelle Obama and her signature bare arms are coming to a toy store near you. New York toymaker Jailbreak Toys will be releasing a 6-inch doll in the likeness of President Barack Obama's wife.

Michelle Obama action figure dolls come in 3 dresses: the purple dress she wore when she first shared her famous "fist bump" during the campaign, the red and black dress she wore on Election Night, and the black-and-white floral dress she wore during an appearance on the chat show "The View."

A description on the toymaker's website reads: "If there's one person in America who has captured the public's imagination even more than Barack Obama, it's his wife Michelle. So following the runaway success of the Obama Action Figure we simply had to make Michelle because Barack and Michelle are a team in the best and truest sense of the word and you can't have one without the other. »

11 February 2009 5:43 AM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Michelle Obama is officially the first lady of fashion. She will appear as the cover of Vogue's March issue, becoming only the second first lady to grace the front of the influential fashion magazine, after Hillary Clinton in 1998. The first lady will appear in an eight-page spread photographed by Annie Liebovitz.

The cover features Obama at the Hay-Adams Hotel, where the Obama family stayed prior to the inauguration. She is in a magenta sheath dress designed by Jason Wu, who also designed the dress worn to the inauguration ball. Inside, she is pictured wearing a black dress by designer Narciso Rodriguez and a skirt, top and cardigan ensemble by J.Crew. She's previously adorned a Rodriguez dress for Election Night and J.
