This movie achieved a degree of surprise a few years back when it wasn't properly released in Ireland. But for three months or so, its trailer was screened every week in the local cinemas. DVD review.
A timid but nice Welsh girl attempts to buy a local house.
Usual British social comedy with quirky characters, accents, silly scenes, musical sequences and an uplifting premise. But unlike rubbish such as Little Voice, Billy Elliot and Blow Dry, Very Annie Mary is quite enjoyable. Griffiths is well cast, the opening scene has to be seen, the smaller parts are memorable and the story is funny. The scene where she goes to the bookies is hilarious.
Give Very Annie Mary a look. Recommended.
