• Miscellaneous: James says that 'Alan Ladd' committed suicide. After protest from the Ladd family, the DVD version has edited out this mention of Ladd's (arguable) suicide (some reports list Ladd's death from cerebral edema) (Reportedly, only the theatrical version has the original mention of Alan Ladd's death.).
  
  
• Continuity: The first time James smokes pot in Tripp's car, in one shot the joint is close to his mouth and when the camera cuts in for a close-up the joint is farther away.
  
  
• Continuity: Tripp is (not) wearing glasses when he talks to his in-laws.

• Continuity: The first rainy scene in front of Tripp's house was obviously filmed on a bright sunny day because there is bright sunlight and sharp shadows cast on the house
  
  
• Continuity: When Tripp is looking around James' room, he opens a books by Sherwood Anderson. In the next shot, the book is closed and Tripp opens it again.
  
  
• Continuity: When Grady is being attacked by the chancellor's dog, in one shot the doorway behind Grady is empty, and in the next shot James stands in the doorway with the cap gun.
  
  
• Continuity: During Grady's drive away from campus early in the film, and the drive back with James following the chancellor's party, the campus scenes visible through the car windows indicate Grady is driving on several roads simultaneously.
  
  
• Continuity: When Grady passes out for the first time, in the lobby of word fest, Sarah Gaskel finds him. We see Sarah stand up and begin to fumble with her cigarettes. It cuts to Grady on the floor and Sarah's hands are by her side. It cuts to the original full shot of both Grady and Sarah with her hands busy with her cigarettes again.
  
  
• Continuity: In the scene where Crabtree is in bed with James, at one point his arm is on the pillow behind James; we cut to a different angle and Crabtree's arm is around James' shoulder instead.
