Killer Imports: Cyborg She

16 June 2009 6:15 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Killer Imports [1] is a regular feature on Film Junk where we explore foreign-language films from around the world that haven’t yet had their chance to shine. I wish I had made this movie. I think that’s one of the highest endorsements I can give. (If I had made it, I would have subtitled it “The Reed Farrington Story.” (Just kidding.) I’ll explain this a little during this review.) If you don’t want the movie spoiled, then I suggest you force yourself to forget the title of the movie, that is, Cyborg She. Oh, sorry about reminding you about the title. Well, I suppose it doesn’t have to be a secret, but the fact that the love interest is a robot, I mean cyborg, isn’t revealed in the movie until about a half an hour or so into the movie. But I think revealing that

First 'Astro Boy' Poster Blasts Off

23 March 2009 8:02 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

From Summit Entertainment (via MTV's Splashpage) comes the first teaser poster for this fall's Astro Boy. I'm frankly surprised that it's taken something like 50 years to bring the character to the big screen. He's a Japanese manga icon who is kind of the granddaddy of anime.

The new film version - which is heading our way in 3-D and could be another big win for Summit, the studio du juor - will feature the voices of Nic Cage, Kristen Bell, and Freddie Highmore. There had been rumors that the project was going on hold or might be scrapped altogether, something having to do with the animation studio, I think, but it's still on track for October 23rd.

Here's the new poster, which unfortunately, reminded me of Bicentennial Man. I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

First Funny I Love You, Beth Cooper Trailer Hits

14 February 2009 4:52 AM, PST | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

In honor of today being Valentine's Day, 20th Century Fox has debuted the trailer for quirky teenage romantic comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper starring the lovely Hayden Panettiere. Here's the story - a nerdy valedictorian proclaims his love for the hottest and most popular girl in school, Beth Cooper (Panettiere), during his graduation speech. Much to his surprise, Beth shows up at his door that very night and decides to show him the best night of his life. It's another one of those cheesy high school comedies and not much more, but some people enjoy watching them and some like the occasional guilty pleasure. Watch the trailer for I Love You, Beth Cooper via the widget below: For more fun, head over to the official website: iloveyoubethcoopermovie.com I Love You, Beth Cooper is directed by Chris Columbus, of everything from Home Alone to Mrs. Doubtfire to Bicentennial Man

Emmerich lands rights to Asimov trilogy, 2012 delayed

22 January 2009 11:17 AM, PST | From Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news

The late sci-fi master Isaac Asimov has had a particularly unfortunate run of it in Hollywood. For as prolific a writer and thinker as he was, it’s no surprise the industry has sought to mine his work, but the bloated studio efforts that have resulted so far—I, Robot and Bicentennial Man, most famously—haven’t exactly honored the legacy he carved out for himself.
