Rumor Patrol: Darren Aronofsky is Still Directing Robocop

24 June 2009 12:03 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

A mountain got made out of a molehill recently when Chud’s Devin Faraci sparked a wild rumor that director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem For A Dream) might be off the Robocop remake that MGM currently has in production.

Well Ain’t It Cool News is playing rumor-killer today: AICN has gotten in touch with Aronofsky himself, who answered the rumor by stating, “No, still on it.”

Guess we can chalk this rumor up to another example of what happens when bloggers get too eager.

This is how the whole ‘Aronofsky off of Robocop‘ rumor started: Faraci saw a video that was shot recently at the Edinburgh Film Festival; during a Q&A with Aronofsky, one crowd member raised a question about the Robocop remake and Aronofsky (a seasoned veteran of film, remember) responded by seeming ignorant of such rumors, or even what “Robocop” was.

Now, I could tell you that

Natalie Portman Is A Black Swan

16 June 2009 12:17 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Following the success of The Wrestler Darren Aronofsky has the pick of any project that he wants in Hollywood. If all goes well Natalie Portman will star as a ballerina in Aronofsky’s supernatural thriller Black Swan.

The film was originally set up at Universal Pictures back in 2007, but it was put into turnaround (the studio decided not to make it and put the project up for sale). Aronofsky has recently been shopping the film around Hollywood and now with Portman’s attachment it looks like it may very well find a home.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Swan centers on a veteran ballerina who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.”

Marlon Wayans Swears G.I. Joe Is More Action Than Jokes

28 April 2009 10:12 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Ever since Marlon Wayans was cast as Ripcord in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, there have been moans and groans all over the ‘Net from those who feel that Wayans’ inclusion in G.I. Joe’s ranks was a sure sign that director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) was stuffing Rise of Cobra with the kind of lame one-liners and jokes that can be a death-knell for action flicks.

Well, Marlon Wayans wants everyone to know that yes, he is aware that he is Marlon Wayans; but no, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra will not be the action-packed second-coming of White Chicks or Little Man.

(Is it a bad thing when you have to do a public service announcement about yourself?)

Here’s what M. Wayans had to say to MTV News about his role in as Ripcord:

“It wasn’t about ‘Hey, let it be the me comedy show’,” promised Wayans.

[DVD Review] The Wrestler

27 April 2009 11:46 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

The Wrestler, mmm, you know, I didn’t catch it in the theaters. I wanted to, just never got a chance is all. So of course I jumped at the chance to review the Blu-Ray, which isn’t really all that packed with features, meaning that I could focus on the film itself. So, focusing on the film itself, I face a dilemma, and that is, “What can I say about this film that hasn’t been said by hundreds or thousands of people more qualified to say it?”

Being in my early 20s, The Wrestler certainly paints a morbid portrait of later life. Having aspirations to entertain, much like our protagonist Randy “The Ram” (Mickey Rourke), it’s fairly horrific, physically upsetting even, to take in a possible outcome of my dreams and goals like Randy’s. But the fact remains that I am, in fact, in my early 20s,

26 March 2009 5:38 PM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Filmmakers always talk about how awkward it is filming sex scenes. Well guess what? Sometimes it's Equally as awkward watching them! When they're done well, they can be hot, but when placed in the wrong hands, a sex scene can be the worst viewing experience ever. Exclusive trailer, photo: ghost movie The Beacon

7 January 2009 10:50 AM, PST | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Producer Sally Helppie and writer/director Michael Stokes gave Fango an exclusive trailer and first photo from their new fright feature The Beacon; check ’em both out below. It’s the second feature from Helppie’s Texas-based Sabbatical Pictures, which previously made the Stokes-scripted violent actioner Exit Speed (coming on Peace Arch DVD March 3).

The Beacon stars Teri Polo (also soon to be seen in Joe Dante’s The Hole) and David Rees Snell as Bryn and Paul Shaw, who are trying to put their life back together following the death of their child. After they move into the Beacon Apartments, Bryn starts experiencing visions of a little boy who died there, and comes to believe that freeing his spirit will allow her to contact her own dead son through him. “I love mayhem movies like Exit Speed,” Stokes tells Fango, “but The Beacon is intentionally old-school, with a character-driven story,
