"Tetsuo" is a film I dislike upon initial viewing, but grew to enjoy upon repeated viewings. So I was interested when a copy of this, Shinya Tsukamoto's rough draft for "Tetsuo". It makes you realize a lot of the good attributes to the original, particularly the decision to film it in black and white. This short is in color and not nearly as intense (the industrial themes are practically gone). And while the original was homoerotic, this does away with metaphors and is obviously about homosexuality. Despite being a third the length of "Tetsuo", it actually feels longer. An interesting experiment, but one that would be improved upon greatly. Recommended for comparison. (4/10)
