Will 'Red' be So Good Not Even Summit Can Mess It Up?

13 November 2009 1:15 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Let's be honest, without Twilight we probably wouldn't even be talking about Summit Entertainment any longer. They have, of course, been around much longer than most of us realize with films such as Memento, American Pie, Mr. and#038; Mrs. Smith, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as part of their production company cred. However, as distributors they have Twilight and the modest hit in Knowing (which they handled domestically and not internationally). Beyond that what are we really talking about?

They managed to squander what I understand to be a rather entertaining teen comedy in Sex Drive, Push bombed, Astro Boy is still in theaters but you wouldn't know it, Sorority Row (a teen horror with the promise of nudity) earned $11 million and the sin of all sins, Summit's 17%-Rotten Tomatoes rated Fly Me To The Moon made more money at the box-office »

Exclusive Interview: Chris Weitz (New Moon Director) - Part I

12 November 2009 11:44 PM, PST | PopStar | See recent PopStar news »

Chris Weitz had a tough act to follow. The talented writer-producer-director had directed such films as American Pie (1999), About a Boy (2002), and The Golden Compass (2007), and now he's the man behind the camera on one of the year's most breathlessly anticipated movies, The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009). Just that title alone clues you into the myriad tasks and quandaries at hand for Weitz: he was stepping into an existing franchise that got off to a blockbuster start last year with Twilight (2008); he was taking over from another director (Catherine Hardwicke) with an entirely different style; he was inheriting a cast -- including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner -- already intimately familiar with their respective roles, and he was directing a movie that was no longer just a sequel to a popular movie, but rather the next installment in a billion-dollar phenomenon. PopStar recently spoke with Weitz by telephone »

Reid Denies Engagement

12 November 2009 11:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

American Pie star Tara Reid has brushed off rumours she is engaged to her internet entrepreneur boyfriend after she was spotted sporting a large pink diamond on her ring finger.

The actress met German businessman Michael Axtmann earlier this year after she was released from a spell in rehab to treat her alcohol addiction.

The pair has been dating ever since, and sent gossip mongers into overdrive when Reid was pictured wearing a massive pink sparkler on her left hand earlier this week (begs09Nov09).

But Reid insists they have no plans to wed in the near future, confessing the big jewel was just a generous birthday gift from her lover.

She tells People.com, "I got a beautiful ring from my boyfriend for my birthday last weekend. But we're not engaged... yet!"

Reid was previously engaged to U.S. TV host Carson Daly. »

Casting News: Harvey Keitel Joins Those Little Fockers, Zachary Quinto Eying Romantic Dramedy Whirligig

12 November 2009 2:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

In casting news tonight, we've learned that Harvey Keitel is joining those crazy Fockers. He's signed on for Little Fockers, the sequel to Meet the Fockers, and the Focker-pun free title Meet the Parents.  He's joining returning cast members Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro, Teri Polo, and Owen Wilson. Keitel will be playing the role of a contractor employed by Stiller's character. The film will be directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie, About A Boy), who's surely looking to move on after Cirque du Freak bombed. I liked the first film well enough, but I'm really wondering how much longer this franchise is going to live on. Will we see the baby Fockers in question growing up while having to deal with their unfortunate last name? Perhaps a Future Fockers down the line? The possibilities are focking endless! Also, in news that will surely make Zachary Quinto fangirls happy, the Heroes »

Playboy Bosses Confirm Reid Will Bare All

11 November 2009 2:01 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Playboy magazine bosses have confirmed reports actress Tara Reid has stripped off for them.

The American Pie star will appear naked in the upcoming issue of the men's magazine.

Poking fun at the star's penchant for accidentally revealing too much at parties and premieres, Playboy bosses tease with, "Imagine what happens when she struts her stuff on purpose."

Ironically, rap mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs also appears in the next Playboy - as the subject of the magazine's monthly Playboy Interview. Reid was once left embarrassed on the red carpet at a Diddy party when she accidentally exposed a breast to photographers. »

'American Pie' Keeps On Going With the Trailer for 'The Book of Love'

10 November 2009 3:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I know the demographic who watches all of the American Pie Presents films is quite narrow, but when I came across the trailer for American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, I had to step back and give them a bit of a golf clap. Who would have ever thought that a little high school sex comedy from 1999 would go on to spawn two theatrical sequels and four straight-to-video titles? Were there any among us who saw Jason Biggs get intimate with an apple pie and thought, "My God, there needs to be seven of these movies"?

Yet here we are with the trailer for The Book of Love, the seventh entrant to the canon of Pie. And in case you're not a die hard fan of the last three films, they were a trip to Band Camp, a lap running The Naked Mile, and a Beta House whose crowning »

New Moon Chris Weitz Interview

8 November 2009 8:00 PM, PST | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

MoviesOnline sat down recently with director Chris Weitz, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and producer Wyck Godfrey to talk about their new movie, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Director Chris Weitz’s success at adapting books for the screen, including “About A Boy” and “The Golden Compass,” made him an obvious choice for this project, says Wyck Godfrey, who produced both “Twilight” and “New Moon.” “Chris has a history of helming fantasy films with complex effects as well as intimate character studies, and he works well with young actors. But it is his appreciation of Stephenie Meyer’s books and characters that made him the perfect director for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Melissa Rosenberg is proving to be one of Hollywood’s most versatile and sought-after writers, seamlessly transitioning from television to the silver screen. She wrote the screenplay for the vampire romance phenomenon “Twilight” directed by Catherine Hardwicke based on »

Night of the Demons Remake Trailer is a Tad Late for Halloween

If you’re like me, you spend nights wondering what former “T2″ star Edward Furlong and “American Pie’s” Shannon Elizabeth are up to. Okay, if you’re like me, you’re probably just wondering what Shannon Elizabeth is up to, and if she’s still single. The answer: they’re busy co-starring in a remake of the 1988 horror movie “Night of the Demons”, the trailer for which have landed online. Take a look, and wonder no more about what has become of Furlong and Elizabeth. (Though if you’re like me, you’ll probably still continue to wonder about Elizabeth, being that she’s, you know, hot and whatnot.) Maddie Curtis and her friends Lilly and Suzanne are ready for a great Halloween night. Theyre going to a party thrown by their friend Angela at the notorious Broussard Mansion in New Orleans. Elizabeth Goes Blonde For The First Time

3 November 2009 5:36 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Shannon Elizabeth has abandoned her trademark brunette locks for a new movie role.

The American Pie star debuts her new blonde look in It's Not You, in which she stars alongside Steve Guttenberg and comedian Jeffrey Ross.

And the sexy star is thrilled she got the chance to try a different style - revealing she has always been banned from touching her famous hair.

She tells WENN, "This is the first time I've been able to change my look. (Movie bosses) usually can't see past me as a brunette."

The actress hopes the new role - in which she romances both Guttenberg and Ross' characters - will show casting directors she's more versatile as an actress, even if it means drastically altering her appearance.

Elizabeth adds, "I'd definitely like to try different looks. It totally depends on the role, of course. But my favourite actor is Gary Oldman. He looks so different in all his movies, you can't always tell it's him." »

Coolidge: 'I play a lot of oddballs'

Jennifer Coolidge has said that she might enjoy playing a traditional leading role in a movie. The American Pie star told Parade that her status as a character actress gives her the chance to play a wide variety of parts. Coolidge said: "You really do get to play a range of people, from nice to nasty gold diggers. I do kind of feel like I play a lot of oddballs and that maybe it would be good to play just a normal person. From the studio that brought you "Mad Men," get ready for....something completely different.

Spike TV has just released the first official trailer for its new scripted football comedy "Blue Mountain State," and... wow.

The series -- official tagline: "At Blue Mountain State, only two things matter-- football, and scoring" -- looks like a mix between "Animal House" and "Revenge of the Nerds," with a bit of "American Pie" thrown in, according to someone who's seen the full pilot.

In other words, "Bms" c... »

Review: iTunes 99p Rental – Scary Movie 3

27 October 2009 5:01 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The way we watch movies is changing. In five years time, the studios believe, all our home entertainment will be delivered digitally. Apple know this, and already have a large quantity of movies available via iTunes and Apple TV.

To encourage us to try this form of media, every week iTunes offers one movie for rental at 99p, a considerable discount from the usual price of £3.50. Every week I  review the movie that has been chosen. This week, to coincide with Halloween, they’ve selected… Airplane creator David Zucker’s Scary Movie 3.

The first Scary Movie was the first proper spoof movie for a while when it was released. Opening at a time when gross-out movies had hit their prime, it was a big success. Infused with The Wayan family’s edge and relevant humour, it was a mix of old style Zucker/Abrams puns and more contemporary American Pie-style sex comedy, »

Someone with a steady hand sent Sean Patrick Flannery a picture of the best "Boondock Saints" jack-o-lantern you're likely to see this year, and he retweeted in kind. There really wasn't any other choice for the Twitter Pic of the Day.

In other tweets, David Slade continued his "Eclipse" posting with a shot of one of the film's stunt co-coordinators and Rachelle LeFevre admitted to crying during "Where the Wild Things Are." Check out those post below along an old clip of The Ultimate Warrior that Aziz Ansari dug up, how Eliza Dushku feels about Dungeons & Dragons, who wants her at his table to play and how Ice-t is faring at "Borderlands" on his Xbox 360. Steve Carell Will Sneak Into Your Country Club

26 October 2009 5:34 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

What is it about golf that makes it so easy to parody? Is it the stereotypical, rich businessmen that play? Is it the incredible boredom that comes from watching it on television? Is it the pants? While other sports, like basketball and boxing, have films that include Hoosiers and Raging Bull, golf's most notable cinematic treatments are Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore. Don't expect that to change anytime soon. According to THR, Steve Carell has signed on to star in Missing Links, a golf comedy based on the novel of the same name by Espn columnist Rick Reilly. Carell will play one of a group of buddies who, getting sick of a decrepit local course named worst in the country, discovers an incredible private course right next to theirs. A bet is then made to see which member of the group can sneak in a round of 18 (think American Pie with »

Yup, Universal is releasing yet another direct-to-dvd American Pie sequel/spin-off. And yes, the jokes have gotten progressively less funny. But before that can happen, they must reconstruct "the bible". After some uproarious attempts with less than successful results, they accidentally discover a legendary guide to seduction hidden in the school library. It turns out to be a rarely-seen, often-sought manual about the secrets to sexual success, penned by some of the school's previous generations. But a few missing pages leads to hilarious surprises for everyone... including the alumni.  The film stars Eugene Levy, Rosanna Arquette, Bug Hall, Kevin M.
