Trivia:
All of Senator Avery's (Nick Nolte) lines, except for sparse words or lines in response to conversation, are real quotes from politicians. moreGoofs:
Factual errors: Senator Avery talks about going for his 8th term but this is impossible. Even assuming the shortest possible time in office (serving only one day of a vacated Senator's position as his first term plus 5 full terms of 6 years each and he is speaking on the first day of his 7th term) this equals 30 years and two days. He directly states he is 52 and you cannot become a Senator unless you are at least 30 meaning he must be an absolute minimum of 60 yeas and two days old. moreSoundtrack:

Emily Watson is a charmer: she's completely naive and innocent, but then again she's not so naive, and maybe not so innocent. She seems to understand nothing, but then she's the only one who understands it all.
Watson's tour-de-force is in playing Trixie completely straight, malapropisms and all. Yeah, the twisted idioms get tired after a while, at least until a funnier one shows up.
Definitely for art house movie lovers and not the megaplex.
