At Sundance Miramax has landed distribution rights to Mark Illsley's comedy, Happy, Texas (1999). But today's Daily Variety indicates that the announced winning bid for the film, a guarantee of $2.5 million plus a "substantial" percentage of the gross, may be open to question. Tony Safford 20th Century Fox's senior VP of acquisitions, told the trade paper, "I know for a fact that the movie was sold for north of $10 million.
