Two American sailors are given the toss from a ship after it docks in London. They hit the waterfront dives for a few drinks and end up in a fight with a local hard-case. The local gets stabbed to death and the two sailors beat the feet. They board a dockside houseboat and take hostage the three women who live aboard. The two need a place to lay low for a few days. After that they plan to steal a small boat and head down river. With any luck they can sign on another ship and make their escape to the States. A gun to the back of the head convinces the women to behave themselves when the police come by on their search. Of course their plans come unglued resulting in the death of one and the capture of the other sailor. John McCullum and Bill Kerr play the sailors while Googie Withers, Wendy Danlelli and Joan Hickson are the women. Some great camera work of London's seedy docks give the film a dark almost menacing feel. A decent middle of the road British thriller.
