Will Ferrell Cameos That Predate 'The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard'

14 August 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

One of the reasons to see “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard,” is for the cameo from Will Ferrell, who also produced the new movie through his company, Gary Sanchez Productions. Typically, uncredited appearances like this are also not promoted so they can be a surprise to the audience. Yet Ferrell’s scene, in which he falls to his death from an airplane while wearing an Abe Lincoln costume and fighting off sex toys, can currently be seen on FunnyorDie.com, where it’s been viewed more than 130,000 times.

Hilarious as it is on its own, you might rather skip the sneak peek and watch the scene in the context of the movie. That is, if you think such a cameo makes a movie better as a whole. There are certainly some people out there who find a sudden appearance from a big star to be an unnecessary distraction.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard Review

14 August 2009 11:55 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Its the final stretch folks, the end of the summer season, and every one of the films that jump out in August tries to walk out over the others. The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard achieves a quick advantage with the look of its comedic cast. Despite having that kind of star power, however, this flick roars along for the first hour but with no pit stop runs itself right into a ditch by the third act.

Jeremy Piven stars as Don Ready, the sharp-tongued egotistical liquidator who sells cars with the help of his all-star team: quick-thinking Jibby (Ving Rhames), the charismatic Brent (David Koechner) and the seductive Babs (Kathryn Hahn). They get the call from failing used car owner Ben Selleck (James Brolin), who has to rally to sell off all the cars on his lot during a Fourth of July sale in order to stay afloat. The "Greatest Single Phone Call in the History" That We've Never Heard

16 July 2009 4:00 PM, PDT | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

Yesterday at the Worldwide Partners Conference, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner regaled attendees with a tale of the "greatest single phone call in the history that I've ever taken in business." Not to be tripped up by a grammatical error or two, Turner went on to tell the crowd that Apple's legal team dialed him up a couple weeks ago demanding Microsoft pull its successful "Laptop Hunters" ad campaign from the air (Apple had lowered its prices and the ads, they claimed, were now misleading). There's no telling whether or not the call went down exactly as Turner said, but who cares? It's more entertaining to think it did. Which got us thinking of some other epic phone calls we wish we'd been privy to (whether they happened this way or not).

Ryan Reynolds Officially Puts His Dick In the ‘Green Lantern’ Box

10 July 2009 11:21 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Yeah, yeah, so this headline doesn't quite make as much sense as when it was Justin Timberlake in the favored spot, but we can't always get what we want. Speaking of not always getting what we want, The Hollywood Reporter is Hollywood reporting that Ryan Reynolds is the guy. He's Hal Jordan. He's The Green Lantern. End of story. Clearly, any finalized news was going to hit fans pretty hard in one direction or another, but this choice is one that I think will split a ton of the automatic audience for this film. I say that mostly because: Ryan Reynolds is a fantastic actor with great range; but A lot of people have only seen him play himself in movies. He's charming and charismatic, but That doesn't really make him Hal Jordan. He may be the best, most appealing choice for a comic book franchise; but He already was the best, most »

Justin Timberlake Puts His Dick In The ‘Green Lantern’ Box

10 July 2009 10:02 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Martin Campbell's Green Lantern movie is due to start shooting in Australia before the end of the year... and they have yet to find an actor to take on the title role.  Rumors have been rampant of late focusing most notably on Bradley Cooper.  Well rumors no more, THR has listed the three names currently in contention for the role... and one of them is pretty damn disturbing. THR is confirming a rumor first posted by AICN that Warner Bros. has narrowed the potential actors down to just three... Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Timberlake.  I'll let you soak that in for a minute... Cooper, Reynolds, and Timberlake. Apparently the studio requested two rounds of screen tests for all three actors in the hopes of agreeing on which should take on the role of Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern.  A Monday holding deadline came and went without a consensus between director Campbell, producer »

Reject Radio: Episode 8: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

Since Neil got kidnapped on his way down to South America to solve the Honduran governmental crisis, he was unable to make it back for the show this Sunday. Rest assured, Rejects, we do not negotiate with terrorist kidnappers. Even when their demands are incredibly reasonable. Good luck, Neil! Fortunately I was able to con Eric Vespe (aka Quint) from Aint It Cool News into thinking that we have more than 12 listeners, and he brought the thunder to the show in a way that's not been seen since we first started broadcasting in 1981. We talk about Romantic Comedies on Predator World, argue over the use of digital in Public Enemies and get frustrated by the genius of Flickchart. Was Einstein a Designer? Relatively, No.

23 June 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

In his recent post, "Design is Too Important to be Left to Thinkers," Robert Brunner made a good point about how every Tom, Dick, corporate strategist, and engineer is now calling himself a "design thinker." This issue needs a deeper look.

In 1921, Albert Einstein won a Nobel Prize for his work on the photoelectric effect, based on a paper he published in 1905. The physics behind every solar panel was effectively described and understood by Einstein. Does that mean Einstein was a designer?

I'm guessing if he were living today, many design institutions and pundits would rush to declare him "The Grand Designer of All Things Solar!" However, I would disagree. Einstein is obviously one of humanity's greatest minds, absolutely the gold-standard for creative thinking, and one seriously interesting character.

Still, not a designer.

Think of another example: Rembrandt's fabulous painting, The Night Watch. It was commissioned by Captain Frans Banning »

Five Of The Greatest ‘Year One’ Stories In Comics

19 June 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

When DC Comics rebooted much of its continuity in 1986, it became a priority to re-establish the origins and early days of several characters. Various story arcs and miniseries came out these revised, older takes on character histories, making them fresh for a new audience and surprising for older fans. The most successful of these revised origins was a story called “Batman: Year One” by “Sin City” creator Frank Miller.

Since then, the term “Year One” has been used for many other DC characters and the phrase is now synonymous with the term “secret origin.” With Jack Black and Michael Cera having their own “Year One” adventure in theaters this weekend, here’s a list of several “year one”-type comic book stories that we recommend for your reading pleasure.

[TV] Uncensored Version of "Mother Lover"

17 May 2009 11:59 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It took a week since the video's debut, but we finally have the uncensored version of Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg's follow-up to their megahit "Dick in a Box," the equally wrong Mother's Day anthem "Mother Lover." This one has no bleeps and no audience laughter.

What do you think? Funnier than the censored version?

Saturday Night Live's 34th season ended this past Saturday with a big blowout show, having former cast Will Ferrell host. It was a pretty terrible show for the most part, as we are (sadly) getting used to with SNL, but one exception was the returning "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketch, which surprisingly didn't run on nostalgia alone. Darryl Hammond and Will Ferrell still have excellent rapport as the dueling Trebek-Connery. Surprise guest Tom Hanks was hilarious playing a bumbling version of himself and Norm MacDonald made a drop-in as Burt Rey... I'm sorry, Turd Ferguson. »

Mid-Week Movie News Wrap Up - Feb. 26, 2009

26 February 2009 10:19 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This week:

Ferrell and Wahlberg are The B Team; make a date with Harry Potter; Matt Damon makes an Adjustment; Twilight’s Hardwicke decides to Stay and Blanchett hangs in the Hood.

1. Will Ferrell and Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg are due to team up in The B Team. No, I’m serious.

According to Variety the film is

“An Adam McKay-directed action comedy that casts Ferrell and Wahlberg as cops, with Chris Henchy writing the script.”

Could be humorous, but it could be dire.

Can Wahlberg do comedy? I’m sure that we’ll find out soon enough.

I’d also expect a title change before the lawyers at Fox get over excited

Source: Variety

2. The final Harry Potter film has a release date:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part II will open on July 15, 2011.

Mark that date in your diary. Man, that’ll be ten years of Harry Potter. »

Stories I Don't Believe: A 'Total Recall' Remake?

26 February 2009 6:03 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I don't want to believe; that's part of it. But really: Total Recall? Weird and scary and totally singular Total Recall? The one with the people being turned into mutants by cosmic rays and the villain who turns Martians into slaves by controlling the air supply? The one where that dude takes off his glove to reveal that holy crap, he's a mutant too? And the three boobs? Remember the three boobs?

Okay, I'm obviously working out some issues here, the main one being that I saw Total Recall as a very young boy and it scared and confused the ever-loving bejeezus out of me (in the best possible way, natch). But really, there's no way to remake Verhoeven's bizarro masterpiece, as I Am Legend (and Made of Honor!) producer Neal H. Moritz claims he's going to do. They might re-adapt the Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, »

Damon Set For The Adjustment Bureau

25 February 2009 1:05 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Matt Damon has attached himself, like a human spider, to The Adjustment Bureau, a sci-fi flick based on a Philip K. Dick short story, which is currently being pitched to studios around Hollywood, with a view to shooting before the end of the summer. It marks the second high-profile project to be packaged to studios in such a way today, along with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s B Team, their action comedy co-starring Mark Wahlberg. Both projects are essentially already to go, and only need a studio to say ‘yes’ and sign a great big cheque. It’s a risk – studios prefer to mitigate risk by developing their own product – but a calculated one, given the talent involved. The Adjustment Bureau package includes George Nolfi as writer and director. Nolfi previously worked with Damon on Ocean’s Thirteen and The Bourne Ultimatum, and is currently also working on the fourth Bourne film. »

Universal Pictures 2009 Movie Preview

6 January 2009 4:08 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Universal and Rogue Pictures have done a great job of supplying us a bunch of new images from 13 of their 17 upcoming films in 2009. Of course we have images from all 17 films, but only 20 of them are brand spanking new. Of the films listed below I am most anticipating Michael Mann's Public Enemies and the Paul Greengrass thriller Green Zone. However, there are other films to make sure you keep on your radar including the Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck political thriller State of Play, Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell with Alison Lohman, the horror remake The Wolfman with Tony Hopkins and Benicio del Toro as the Wolfman and I am also curiously interested in Cirque Du Freak, a strange vampire fantasy feature directed by Paul Weitz (In Good Company and About a Boy) adapted from the 12-book children's series by Darren Shan.
