Before seeing this, I wasn't much of a mystery fan (because most of the popular mystery's crud) nor anime fan (Because it's all whiny drama or annoying sexual references), but this show is incredible.
It's about a boy named Shinichi(Jimmy in the dub) Kudo, a high school detective who can solve ANY case. One night while on a date with his childhood friend (and secret crush) Ran(Rachel) Mouri(Moore), he runs off to spy on a suspicious deal. One of the members of an elite crime organization knocks him down and decides to try a new poison on him. However, instead of killing him, it took 10 years off his age. Not knowing where to go, he turns to a family friend, Doctor Agasa, to help him. Not wanting to put anyone in danger by telling people his real identity, he creates an alias, Conan Edogawa. With Agasa's help, he is able to move in with Ran, who's father in a detective, and follow along with the cases (as well as solving most of them with gadgets Doctor Agasa created to help him) in hopes of finding info on the people that did this to him so that he can get back to his normal body and live out his dream of confessing love to Ran (and also not being treated like a child).
The only major problem I've found with this show is that there are over 400 episodes with almost nothing changed (most likely because they don't want to end the anime before the manga), so it's harder for them to be original with the outline of the stories. It's not that bad though because unlike most shows that run of a long time, it hasn't gone downhill, the later episodes are just as good as the beginning ones. So, all in all, it's a good show without too much whiny drama (though there's still some, I mean it is a show about high schoolers in love) and it doesn't rely on cheap laughs.
Another downside is only for the English speakers. Funimation has messed up the releasing of this anime so badly. It makes me kind of sad to think that the other dubs are in the hundreds, and we have 80, which are being re-released because they were idiots in how they released them in the first place, making us wait longer. They skipped releasing most of the episodes, and say they have 5 full seasons when they haven't even gotten finished with season 3. It makes it very hard to be able to enjoy this show when there's hardly any episodes available for you to watch.
