The quality of this DVD is pretty good. The weakest point is the compression. The 180 minutes film plus a featurette reduce the average bit rate to an unsatisfying 4.5 MBit/s, which is not enough for full 4:3 material. Artifacts are evident in most shots, usually slight though and not too distracting, thanks to the experience of the compressionists at Laser Pacific.
There is occasionally some unwanted grain and noise (amplified by the compression). The film master was in very good shape (some speckles), sharpness is satisfying. Color and contrast are good and video artifacts minimal.
