Season 1, Episode 0: Ghosts of the Confederacy

Chris Larabee forms a motley group of men to protect an Indian village from an outlaw gang of ex-Confederate soldiers bent on continuing the Civil War. Their fee: the princely sum of five dollars apiece. Larabee's wife and son died in a fire and doesn't much care if he lives or dies; his men include Vin Tanner, a former bounty hunter and current fugitive; J.D. Dunne, a youthful, wannabe gunfighter; Buck Wilmington, a gunslinger and ladies man - not necessarily in that order; Josiah Sanchez, an ex-preacher battling his own personal demons; Ezra Standish, a Southern con artist and gambler and Nathan Jackson, an ex-slave with medical knowledge based on his years in the Union army.

Season 1, Episode 1: One Day Out West

A judge, who happens to be Mary's Father-in-Law, arrives in town and immediately sets out to bring law & order with him. Meanwhile the seven are contemplating their futures and whether or not they should go their own ways. The son of a cattle baron is in jail and the judge is determined that he will stand trial for murder. When he escapes custody the seven must decide where their loyalties lie...with the judge and the town or their needs to keep moving on.

Season 1, Episode 2: Working Girls

Buck, J.D. and Chris are in Wickestown, a tent town whose main resources are whiskey and women. When Buck sees one of the women being beaten by a man he steps in and Chris and J.D. must intervene as well. They ride off with Nora and it isn't long before the rest of the 'working girls' follow suit and leave Wickestown for the protection of the seven. This infuriates Wickes, the brutal man who runs Wickestown with an iron fist, and he will stop at nothing to get the women back.

Season 1, Episode 3: Safecracker

Buck and Nathan have the job of escorting a recently paroled prisoner to town. When they meet the prison wagon they are surprised to find their charge is a woman and her daughter. Mary has arranged her release and Terry Greer is hoping to settle down and raise her daughter, Olivia. Buck is quite taken with Terry who happens to be an expert safe cracker. Her plans to go straight are jeopardized by Morgan Coltrane who wants her to help him pull off a bank job. The Seven will have to prevent this while keeping Terry and Olivia safe.

Ezra Standish's mother, Maude comes to visit at the same time Mary's little boy, Billy Travis comes to visit his mother. Billy was a witness to the murder of his father, Stephen. The murderer kidnaps Billy and the Seven ride to the rescue.

An elderly woman and her pretty niece ask the Seven for help when a cattle baron tries to force them off their land. Chris learns that the land grabber has run off or killed the small ranchers along a stretch of land that could become a railroad right-of-way and who uses any means at his disposal to obtain the land, including hiring a murderous one-eyed marshal who holds a long-standing grudge against Chris.

Vin and Buck rescue the daughter of a missionary who was apparently abducted by an Indian brave. Vin isn't sure the young woman didn't flee with the Indian voluntarily. When the young Indian escapes jail, Vin is blamed.

Original Air Date—21 March 1998
Chris is falsely arrested in a backwater town and sentenced to five years hard labor in a private prison. The rest of the Seven attempt to trace his movements and effect a rescue.
