Comedian Robin Williams refuses to get complacent about his Hollywood success - because he will never forget the moment he found out his TV show Mork & Mindy had been scrapped.
The funnyman landed his big break in the late 1970s playing the alien Mork in the sitcom opposite actress Pam Dawber.
Bosses at U.S. TV network ABC, which aired the series, cancelled the programme in 1982 - but no one told Williams, and he was devastated when he read about his show's demise in trade paper Daily Variety.
He tells People magazine, "I found out the show was cancelled by reading it in Variety. In Hollywood that's like reading your own obituary: 'You're dead, good luck!'"
Williams has since earned his superstar status with roles in films like the Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams and Mrs. Doubtfire.

Oscar-nominated composer Marc Shaiman will be the music director for the 2010 Academy Awards, telecast producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic have announced.
Shaiman received Original Score Oscar nominations for The American President (1995), The First Wives Club (1996), and Patch Adams (1998), in addition to nominations in the Original Song category for "A Wink and a Smile" from Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and for "Blame Canada" from South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999).

Marvin Minoff, who produced the famed Richard Nixon interviews with David Frost, numerous telefilms and the 1998 film "Patch Adams," died Nov. 11 at his Los Angeles home with family and friends at his bedside. He was 78.
Minoff, the husband of actress Bonnie Franklin and the longtime business partner of writer-actor Mike Farrell, left the agency business after 15 years to become president of Frost's David Paradine Television in 1974.

I must admit that Robin Williams looks great in "drag" and is hilarious as Mrs Doubtfire, the pretend maid who tries to save his marriage by attempting to ruin a relationship between his soon to be ex-wife (Sally Fields) and her new boyfriend (Pierce Brosnan). Williams is also out to prove that he can handle responsibility and as Mrs. Doubtfire is willing to show how much he loves his kids and family.

Robin Williams is one of the great comedic minds of our time, but you could be forgiven for forgetting this, given the amount of treacly touchy-feely film roles he's squandered his talents playing in recent years. Well, at least it will keep him away from the movies for a few. Once-funny man Robin Williams has announced that he'll be gracing the Great White Way with his no-longer-funny presence. He'll be bringing his one-man show "Weapons of Self-Destruction" to Broadway from April 28 to May 3.
While Williams has been on a 80-city tour with the show, that, unfortunately, doesn't mean he doesn't have any movies coming out. He'll still be terrorizing the multiplex this year in Old Dogs and the Night at the Museum sequel. Oh well, at least there's no Patch Adams sequel in the works.

I add movies to the database almost daily as well as cast members to those movies and unless it is a major film I tend to pretty much forget everything I do just moments after I do it. That's why when I checked out the latest clip from Rogue's The Last House on the Left it surprised me to find Monica Potter as part of the cast even though in March of 2008 I even included her name in a casting article.
I only mention this because I still remember back around the time Con Air was released and Potter's name was mentioned as an up-and-coming actress. Perhaps it was only because of her looks, but either way she was someone people were talking about. Then, not a whole lot happened. She had a part in Patch Adams in 1998 and then with Along Came a Spider in 2001 the buzz had seemed to die completely.

So Universal is making a Stretch Armstrong movie? For fuck's sake! I'm sorry, but they've crossed the line. I can accept Hasbro inspired movies like Candy Land, because that could be fun in a cinematic way, but Stretch Armstrong? Of course, you can already guess what it'll be about - a superhero comedy based on the toy Stretch Armstrong. Steve Oedekerk, of Patch Adams, Jimmy Neutron, Bruce Almighty, and Evan Almighty, has been hired to put together a screenplay. "They are drawing filmmakers who find a real emotional connection and resonance, and this is proving to be a compelling driver for motion pictures."
This isn't the first time a Stretch Armstrong movie has been pitched. Apparently Disney tried to put one together in 1998 with Danny DeVito that fell through and later again with Jackie Chan. Even if this makes it to theaters, it's going to fail. No word on who

Universal Pictures has hired Steve Oedekerk to write Stretch Armstrong, a superhero comedy which marks the latest film to be based on a Hasbro-owned toy.
The toy, a 13-inch, blond-haired muscled figure whose limbs could be stretched to nearly four feet, was launched by Kenner in the '70s. He had a dog named Fetch Armstrong, and a sibling, Evil X-Ray Wretch Armstrong.
Attempts to turn him into a movie stretch back to 1998, when Disney tried to make the film with Danny DeVito and later Jackie Chan.Hasbro's Brian Goldner, who will produce, reacquired the rights, and Oedekerk is starting from scratch.
Oedekerk’s writing credits include The Nutty Professor, Patch Adams and Bruce Almighty and its sequel. He also wrote and directed Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Barnyward, Nothing to Lose and Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.

My favorite movie (which I've I watched over again and again) of All Time has to be "Patch Adams" starring Robin Williams. It's the true story about a man named Hunter "Patch" Adams, a man once institutionalized and who went on to become a great doctor, using "humor" to treat patients in hospitals (he even started his own hospital, the "Gesundheit" Hospital). This movie is excellent because it's one of those movies that truly inspires (including myself) and producers love to here about how their movies have inspired people.
