Review: Ghost Whisperer - Lost In The Shadows

20 November 2009 11:52 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

(S05E09) "I have a bad feeling about this one. A very bad feeling." - Melinda about the ghost in the closet

Melinda's bad feeling was, pardon the pun, dead on. Very bad things happened in this November Sweeps episode: Aiden was put in danger, the dead girl from the closet was front and center, the Shadows came back full force and in a way we hadn't see yet, Bedford gave more warnings to Eli, as a hurting Carl the Watcher gave warnings to Melinda.

Aliens To Sink Peter Berg’s Battleship?

9 November 2009 10:47 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We learned early this summer that Universal is planning a Battleship board game movie, then a couple of months ago Peter Berg (Hancock) was tapped to direct, and a release date was set for July 1st, 2011 (apparently it’s been changed to August 5th, 2011). Berg has described the Battleship movie as, “an epic naval action adventure,” that is, “a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle.”

That was enough to go on at the time, but what Berg Didn’T mention was who the enemy was going to be…that is, until now. On Friday, Latino Review got a scoop that confirmed (their words, not ours) from a source that the foes the “hero” battleships were presumably going to be battling against are… wait for it… aliens! That’s right, extraterrestrials presumably attacking earth for our wonderful resources (what’s left of them, »

Five Cool Movies For Spring 2010

23 October 2009 3:12 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.

So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…

The Losers

When is it? – 9th April.

Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico

Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

Sr Pick: Place Your Bets – Vegas Movies By the Numbers

14 October 2009 7:15 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Ah Vegas! Home to Siegfried and Roy (the one munched on by a tiger), CSI, the World Series of Poker, legal prostitution, fabulous shows, the mob and lots and lots of gambling. After trying the family friendly route, over the last couple of years the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has tried put back the reputation of Sin City back to more an adult atmosphere, focusing on the great shows but at the same time reminding adults that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

That is a great pitch line but when every one of my friends come home from Vegas, they go to the priest, the lawyer or the doctor (obviously some things do Not stay in Vegas.)

Las Vegas has also been the backdrop for many movies throughout the years; films of every genre have been shot there: Action, thriller, horror, comedy, drama. And when you start to think about it, »

Peter Berg To Wayne Gretzky: 'Hell Yeah, I'd Do You In A Second!'

9 September 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Eleven years after Peter Berg premiered his directorial debut, the dark comedy "Very Bad Things" at the Toronto International Film Festival, the writer/director/producer/actor/dude-who-must-never-sleep is bringing another project to the Canadian fest: a documentary about his long-time friend and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky called, "Kings Ransom."

The hour-long film stems from Espn's "30 for 30" series, a collection of documentaries that focus on characters and events that have altered the sports landscape in the years since the cable network launched in 1979.

"Espn came and were basically like, 'You can do anything that you want,'" Berg told MTV News during some downtime on the set of "Friday Night Lights," which he exec produces. "So I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. And someone had decided they should do one on Wayne and so Wayne called me and said, 'Would you do me?' And I said, »

Peter Chelsom To Direct Last Vegas

21 August 2009 12:39 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Peter Chelsom, the British director whose eclectic CV includes movies as diverse as Hear My Song, Funny Bones, Serendipity and, erm, Hannah Montana: The Movie, has lined up his next project.Fresh from the commercial success of that Montana movie, the talented Chelsom has signed to direct Last Vegas, a comedy about four older gentlemen who decamp to Sin City for a stag weekend when one of their number decides to get hitched.Sounds familiar? Well, it’s The Hangover with colostomy bags. Very Bad Things with a free bag of Werther’s Originals. What Happens In Vegas with bus passes, and a faint smell of urine. But, while it may sound thuddingly unoriginal, Chelsom is a fine director, and we trust him to elevate the material. However, he’s also acutely aware of the comparisons that will be made, and welcomes them, even telling Variety that The Hangover’s »

The Hangover Movie Review

13 June 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

Playing like a jaunty version of Very Bad Things, The Hangover is fun example of how things can go completely wrong and still turn out relatively okay.  Four friends (well three friends and a future brother-in-law) head out to Vegas for Doug's bachelor party two days before his wedding.  We get a glimpse of the future in the beginning then shift over to present day until they take some Jager shots on the roof of a hotel.  Then they wake up and we watch along as they attempt to piece together exactly what transpired the night before.  Why is there a tiger in the bathroom?&nb... »

Weekly Poll Results: Best Vegas Movie

10 June 2009 6:26 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The people have spoken, and Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas has been voted the best Vegas flick, according to Film Junk readers. A little unexpected, but a great choice nonetheless! Martin Scorsese's Casino came in a fairly close second, while Ocean's Eleven and Swingers were at #3 and #4 respectively. The remainder of the choices trailed pretty far behind the top 4, with Viva Las Vegas all the way down at the bottom. Where's the love for Elvis? 1. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -- 32.8% 2. Casino -- 25.6% 3. Ocean's Eleven (Remake) -- 14.1% 4. Swingers -- 12.2% 5. Very Bad Things -- 4.6% 6. Rain Man -- 4.2% 7. Diamonds Are Forever -- 1.9% 7. The Cooler -- 1.9% 9. Episode #124 - Misadventures in Las Vegas

9 June 2009 12:33 AM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

This weekend saw Todd Philips' "The Hangover" far outperforming expectations, but Philips is hardly the first to tackle the infamous city (and its associations) in the realm of studio comedy before, so we've decided to take take an hour and look at two Vegas-themed comedies - Peter Berg's dark comedy "Very Bad Things" and Doug Liman's "Swingers" - along with "The Hangover" itself. listen now [1] Download the show in a separate window [2] [1] http://www.soundonsight.org/SoundReviews/Episode124.mp3 [2] http://www.soundonsight.org/SoundReviews/Episode124.mp3 »

Box-Office Wrap-Up: Jun. 5 - Jun. 7, 2009

7 June 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Will I take my projected victory? You betcha. I was three million down on Friday night and it was not looking good. But I'm happy for The Hangover too. It crushed expectations, it's a funny movie, and worth of mouth should be fantastic. I saw it again on Friday night down here in Florida with friends, it's still solid the second time through. But enough critiquing, let's break this weekend down! #1 movie predicted correctly: 2 Weeks In A Row 1. Up Does anyone know the last time a film came back from a $3m Friday deficit to win the weekend? A commenter named Quazyflip had Up at $44m, but not until late Friday night, when plenty of information was out there. So I'm giving him partial credit. Up is at $137m cume, but that's with very few international dollars counted. So it's going to be big, you may recall that Wall-e did better internationally than domestically. »

Top 5 Vegas Films

5 June 2009 11:10 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Swingers (1996) Directed by Doug Liman It really isn't hard to see why this film has acquired a cult following. The atmosphere is laid back, the dialogue is some of the best in any 90's comedy, the characters are appealing and well-drawn, the casting is perfect, the soundtrack is great, and the situations are honest and real. Memorable quotes: You know what you are? You're like a big bear with claws and with fangs... ...big fucking teeth, man. Yeah... big fuckin' teeth on ya'. And she's just like this little bunny, who's just kinda cowering in the corner. Shivering. Yeah, man just kinda... you know, you got these claws and you're staring at these claws and your thinking to yourself, and with these claws you're thinking, "How am I supposed to kill this bunny, how am I supposed to kill this bunny?" And you're poking at it, you're poking at it. »

June 5: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

5 June 2009 10:03 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

We all know how it is. You'd like to get out to see a new movie this weekend, but frankly, after how you’re planning to party on Friday night, you’ll be as hung over as the guys in that new Vegas movie on Saturday night and in no shape to go out. But you can have something close to that blockbuster experience at home with the proper application of rental DVDs. In fact, you might even be able to one-up everyone else at the watercooler come Monday, because while they're saying, "Hey, did you see The Hangover?" you can respond, "No, I saw an even better movie about a bachelor party gone wrong instead." Instead Of: The Hangover, in which three groomsmen lose their memories -- and the groom -- on the eve of his wedding after their stag night in Sin City goes bad... Rent: Very Bad Things, »

HuffPost Review: The Hangover

4 June 2009 6:44 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

We've all had that kind of morning after a night of overindulgence. Your eyes barely open, your brain hardly functions, your memory is a blur (or a blank) - and, perhaps, you have some mysterious scrapes and bruises that weren't there 24 hours earlier. If you're lucky, however, your experience is nothing like the four guys at the center of The Hangover, the leading contender to be the summer's breakout comedy. This is a cautionary tale - and a hilarious one, at that. Not that it's original in any sense. The bachelor-party-gone-wrong comedy is a staple, with many forebears (as light as Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks, as dark as Peter Berg's Very Bad Things). As for comedies about overnight amnesia, the line stretches from Charlie Chaplin's City Lights to Dude, Where's My Car? and beyond. Yet director Todd Phillips, working from a... »

Does The Battleship Board Game Movie Have A Director?

18 May 2009 9:48 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Remember the good old days when Hollywood just remade everything, adapted video games or extended a series beyond it’s rightful lifetime with unnecessary sequels? Oh yes, that was a simpler time…

It appears that wasn’t enough for them and they’ve gone a step further than just those three types of usually bad paths by making movies out of board games. No, that’s not some industry specific term for a new type of sequel or remake. That’s right, I’m referring to those family-friendly pastimes which usually have dice and plastic pieces you move around on a flat board when you’ve got nothing else to do…

There are already plans put in motion for movies based on the board games Monopoly (with Ridley Scott set to helm it… no joke), Candyland, Magic: The Gathering and even one based on the Ouija board (is that a board game, »

Peter Berg to Direct Battleship, Could Robert Pattinson Be a Shipmate?

17 May 2009 11:37 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Peter Berg is in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of Hasbro’s board game Battleship for Universal Pictures. Brother screenwriting team Jon and Erich Hoeber have signed on to write the script, which is said to be “an epic naval action adventure” loosely inspired by the game.  Universal seems to have a multi-picture development deal with Hasbro/Milton Bradley. Twilight star Robert Pattinson, while on break from shooting New Moon, was spotted last week leaving Berg’s Los Angeles home. At the time, many speculated that Pattinson might be in talks to join Berg’s planned remake of Dune, but Berg has so many projects in the development pipeline that it would be impossible to narrow it down to one of them. And it would be too speculative for me to say that Battleship is probably the film. Actor turned filmmaker Berg has directed Very Bad Things, The Rundown, »

Movies That Deserve a Second Life: Comedy Edition

5 April 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Welcome to another edition of Movies That Deserve a Second Life. If you need a refresher on what I’m referring to by “second life,” check out the Action/Adventure Edition. If you’re caught up, read on to see what funny flics I felt were unfairly ignored/disliked upon its release or have been forgotten in the years since its release.

Comedy is almost certainly the most subjective of all genres. What makes one person laugh is guaranteed to make another yawn or wrinkle his/her brow. Some find juvenilia in poor taste while others bust a gut. Everyone claims to have a sense of humor, but almost no one enjoys every type of humor there is, from dry wit and pungent satire to bodily fluid gags and intentionally groan-worthy puns. Therefore, I think it’s safe to say that no one (besides myself) will be satisfied with every choice. »

Elba And Saldana Are The Losers

2 April 2009 12:31 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana must be putting in some serious gym time right now, as they negotiate roles in the upcoming big-screen version of Vertigo/DC comic The Losers.Joining the already buff Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the pair will play a Special Forces team who are left for dead on a mission after being betrayed by their handler, but regroup for a spot of revenge against the CIA.Elba - whose work on The Wire leads most people to forget that he's actually English - will bring Jdm's scarred second-in-command and merciless mercenary Roque to life, while fast-rising Star Trek and Avatar starlet Saldana will play the quick-tempered and cold-blooded Aisha. We've all had time to get used to the fact that Stomp The Yard's Sylvain White is directing, although we are still hoping for some krunkin' dance-offs during the action set-pieces. An introduction to Hell... Benny Hell

23 March 2009 2:41 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Hello, my name is Benny, and I’m an alcoholic.

Oh… wait, this isn‘t that kinda introduction. Let me start over.

Hello, my name is Benny Hell, and in addition to being an alcoholic, I’m an asshole. There is something seriously damaged in me. It guides me to music that no one seems to care about, and then it forces me to write things about it. I have a big mouth with a small filter on it, I open it and things just fall out like I’m freakin’ Linda Blair or something. Even though I have a Catholic apparel fetish (you should see me in the latex nun costume!), I’m a lot like that Devil materializing on your shoulder at the worst times possible. I whisper in your ear because I want you to get in trouble. I did, but the institution says I’m much better now. »

A 'Hangover' We Might All Enjoy

6 March 2009 11:25 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I feel like there's no right way to go about this, especially after yesterday's whole "I've barely seen Jim Jarmusch's work" bit, but I have admittedly seen (and admittedly enjoyed) most of Todd Phillips' work to date. His comedies tend to be slightly smarter about how to be dumb than most of their ilk, so between that and this new trailer for The Hangover, I'm willing to believe that he has something funny in store.

We've got three groomsmen (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zack Galifianakis of "Between Two Ferns" fame), one missing groom, an infant, a tiger, a squad car and Mike Tyson grooving on some Phil Collins -- all in the aftermath of a Las Vegas bachelor party that must've topped the shenanigans of Very Bad Things. Honestly, if you'd want more out of a minute-long trailer, I'd almost rather not know.

The Hangover is scheduled to open on June 5th, »
