Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, peace and good will towards men. But in Hollywood, its also a time for death, destruction and nearly every form of mayhem. Throughout the 80's 90's and (soon to be history) 00's more and more action films seem to take place during “the most wonderful time of the year”. Whether it be a heist, monster invasion or assault by pirates, so much onscreen action occurs on this jolly day that it's a miracle ole Saint Nick isn't killed in the crossfire. Here are just a few action films where Christmas is actually the last thing on the minds of characters fighting for their lives.Batman Returns (1992) Set during the Christmas season where a tree lighting ceremony in Gotham City serves as a battleground for the struggle between Batman (Michael Keaton), The Penguin (Danny DeVito) and Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). Armored Review

Short Version: The good news is: If you like to walk in, sit down and enjoy an action film, then Armored is for you. The bad news is: If you’ve seen the trailer, then you can walk in 45 minutes late and not miss a thing.
Screen Rant’s Paul Young reviews Armored
Every once in a while a movie comes out of nowhere that totally catches me by surprise. Black Dog, Hard Rain and Deep Rising are still three of my favorite mid-budget action flicks that got very little advertising or respect but managed to be very enjoyable in the theaters. All three also made into my DVD library – and now Armored will join them on my shelf.
There are some minor spoilers in the following review.
Nimrod Antal, the guy directing Predators, has done a very good job of making Armored fun and interesting without blowing it way over-the-top.

Oh hello? Is it possible? Could Jean Reno be making a come back? You know, that Jean Reno, the one that once starred in Nikita, The Professional and Ronin before going on to make a load of films so bad they’re not even worth mentioning.
It looks like there is light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Reno is signed on to star in 22 Bullets (L'Immortel) an actioner being directed by actor-turned-director Richard Berry (who is no stranger to working with Reno - the two have appeared together in a number of films) and adapted from Franz-Olivier Giesbert's bestselling novel. But why all the excitement? This is why:
After a long, brutal and successful career in the Marseille mafia, Charly Matteï has gone straight. For three years, he has lived a quiet life devoted to his wife and two young children. Then, one winter morning,

Showtime Orders Fourth Season of ‘Californication’

Those who caught last week’s season premiere of Showtime’s original series Californication can give themselves a congratulatory pat on the back. Thanks to the astounding viewership, the show has already been picked up for another season. The episode had 821,000 viewers, which is more than twice as many as the first season initially got.
For those who aren’t on the bandwagon, the series stars David Duchovny as Hank Moody, an at-one-time successful writer, who has hit a bit of writer’s block and relies on vices like booze and women to help him cope. Being on Showtime, this becomes one of the bigger appeals to some watchers as an “adult show.”
The show has some great supporting characters to play alongside Duchovny as well, including Natasha McElhone (Ronin), Pamela Adlon (King of the Hill), Madeline Zima (The Nanny) and Evan Handler (Sex and the City). Also, there are

Director Sylvain White Talks Frank Miller’s ‘Ronin’

For those who haven’t heard, it looks like Sylvain White will be jumping from one graphic-novel-to-film adaptation (The Losers, currently in production) to another. Sylvain recently shared some details of his vision for Ronin, based on the graphic novel written and drawn by Frank Miller, who also wrote the legendary Batman: The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel and was the creator and co-director of the Sin City graphic novel and film, respectively.
White had a lot to say to Steve Weintraub over at Collider, including the following quote, which addresses the ubiqiutous “how are you going to honor the source material” issue:
“So I would pay homage to him more in the production design versus the actual frames. The frames in ‘Ronin’ are some beautiful frames, and some I would go with, but what’s beautiful to me about ‘Ronin’ is the production design and the character design and the colors that are used.

Frank Miller's Ronin May Come to Life in 3-D

Frank Miller has been a legend in comic book circles for decades, but he didn't become a household name until the successful film adaptations of his works Sin City and 300.
Despite his failed attempt to pay homage to Will Eisner's The Spirit, Miller's ideas are still considered fertile ground for feature films. Both Sin City 2 and a prequel to 300 are planned, as is an adaptation of his 1983 cyberpunk graphic novel, Ronin — not to be confused with the Robert Deniro movie of the same name.
Director Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) is attached to direct Ronin. Currently, White is filming The Losers, another comic book adaptation. He recently told SuperHeroHype.com that a script for Ronin is "still being developed" but could be coming to theaters in 3-D.
I just got a new draft a week ago. It's looking really good and promising. I hope it gets to go.... [Mine is] a big-budget,

Sometimes the results of a poll as voted for by the public can take you by surprise, prompting you to dare others to name who came top as “they’ll never guess”. Well, that is seriously not the case with this new survey conducted by AOL Autos asking folks to reveal their favourite car chase movie as coming in at the coveted top spot is Bullitt. The Steve McQueen classic from 1968 is a firmly established masterpiece of motoring movie magic (read up on it here) often walking away with such honours. But what other films made the list? Click over to find out.
Another retro classic fared well in the survey as 1969’s The Italian Job joins Robert De Niro’s Ronin in the top three. Making do with lower positions are a further combination of old timers and modern newbies such as Burt Reynolds caper The Cannonball Run, Quentin Tarantino

Movies That Deserve a Second Life: Action/Adventure Edition

When referring to a movie that nabbed a second life, typically home video is the savior. There are countless movies that didn’t fare well in their original theatrical runs but have earned a so-called second life thanks to profitable video sales and rentals that make them much stronger than they ever were when they first arrived. Examples of this trend vary greatly, whether you’re referring to genre, era, proliferation (or magnitude of the “second life”) and, of course, how deserving it is. Most that get a boost long after its premiere got where it is now slowly, spread wide by word of mouth and critical re-analysis. Most of them were not well received during the initial run, and many are re-evaluated, and mistakes are mended. Among them: 2001, The Princess Bride, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Big Lebowski, Fight Club, Office Space and Dazed and Confused. These

Has Kenneth Branagh Found His Thor?

LatinoReview received an interesting email from a scooper, who claims to have seen "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh eating dinner with a young blonde actor, who fits the "Thor" description perfectly. So, who is this person? It's Alexander Skarsgard, the son of actor Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia!, Ronin). So why does the young Skarsgard fit the description? He is 6'4, blonde and has been voted Sweden's sexiest man five times. He is also pretty accomplished in America, being part of the cast of "True Blood." Plus, he is represented by the same agency that represents Branagh. And take a look at the picture of Skarsgard and tell me that's not Thor. The movie revolves around a partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake, who discovers his unknown alter ego, the Norse warrior, Thor. It is expected to hit theaters on July 16th, 2010. Chicago – Still trying to get over an Oscar hangover? There’s no better way to deflate the pomposity of awards season than with a wicked car chase. Of course, one of the best of all time hit Blu-Ray this week in the controversial Blu-Ray release of “The French Connection,” but the same studio also released another pair of movies dedicated to automobile aficionados and an animated sci-fi comedy when all the metal destruction gets too much to take.
Two of the best car movies of all time - 1971’s “Vanishing Point” and 1998’s “Ronin” - hit Blu-Ray for the first time this week and the final “Futurama” movie, “Into the Wild Green Yonder” also hit the format. All three of these titles were released on February 24th, 2009.
