Yet another inconclusive movie about nothing, 24 February 2006
3/10
Author: tenpercent from Midwest - USA

3 stars out of 10

I had my doubts about this film when I saw the type of over-blown, pretentious, pseudo-intellectual reviews it was receiving - that's nearly always a sure sign the thing blows. It generally means the film is virtually plot less, the characters behave in odd, irrational ways, it has no particular point, no real conclusion, and to sum up - comes to nothing.

Sure enough "Sunday" fit the bill on every one of those.

I watched it mainly because there literally was nothing else to watch on the satellite dish channels and since it said it was a romantic drama, I had some hope, albeit faint, that it might have something going for it.

The only thing this film has going for it at all is David Suchet, a rather attractive, middle-aged man, who plays a guy down on his luck and living in a homeless shelter or flophouse hotel.

Like the other characters who occupy this film, however, we never really learn that much about him. We know he lost his job due to down-sizing but why was he unable to get re-employed? And just what the heck is going on with the woman he meets, Madeline, a small time actress and her weird husband or ex, I was never clear on which he was. Are Madeline and Ben just loopy or what? Why do they have a Korean daughter? Adoption, one would assume, but nothing is ever explained about it, nor is it explained how their behavior may be affecting the child.

This movie is just a series of odd scenes and dialog between the characters and then without any of it coming to anything, it ends.
