Revealing mistakes: Toward the end of the movie, when Herb fires off the flare, the scene cuts to the plane where there's normal conversation with no engine sounds whatsoever. moreQuotes:
Herb: [to Gil Godwyn while in the lifeboat] /Listen to me, you sniveling little brown-nose. I have lived for 71 years, I've fought a war, I've buried my wife and I've survived 48 white sales at Gimble's. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were something of a double act in the 50s and 60s and while it may have been old hat to see them appearing in movies together in the 1990s they do work off each other rather well with Matthau being a hubristic con man and Lemmon being a slightly neurotic up standing citizen
Did I say old hat ? because OUT TO SEA is a very old fashioned film . It contains some mild swearing but apart from that the script could easily have been written in 1960 something . Maybe it was since we're treated to go go dancers and rumba . Did I say this is an old fashioned film ? Where OUT TO SEA works best is when Herb and Charlie interact with the camp and authoritarian Gil who doesn't take any nonsense . As for the negative points i will confess to remembering that I liked it at the time but I'm having difficulty trying to remember why which is a sign of a forgettable movie
