  • Continuity: The shaving cream on the man who gives Donnie the thumbs up.

  • Anachronisms: Many '90s models cars and trinkets visible.

  • Factual errors: Maggie is shovelling snow and complaining that the temperature is freezing at the same time that Lefty and Donnie are reading John Wayne's obituary. Wayne died in June 1979.

  • Continuity: Pistone's hair in between kissing his wife and going up the stairs.

  • Anachronisms: The scene at the airport hangar shows a Continental plane with a 1990s-era logo.

  • Anachronisms: Set in the late 1970s, features the modern logo for Northwest Airlink. Also visible in the background is the modern National Debt Clock.

  • Anachronisms: When Pistone is feeding his girls eggs for breakfast, a Tuscan milk carton from the '90s is seen in the background.

  • Anachronisms: Early on in the film, Neil Diamond's song 'Love on the Rocks' can be clearly heard playing in the background, in fact one of the card players in the scene sings along. 'Love on the Rocks' was not released until 1980.

  • Continuity: The amount the window of the car is rolled down while Donnie and Lefty are feeding the lion.

  • Continuity: Maggie's cap changes when she enters the house after shoveling snow.

  • Continuity: When Pistone first meets Lefty about diamonds at the bar, Lefty's arm goes from resting on the counter to being by his side between shots.

  • Continuity: The Gif peanut butter moves counter clockwise in the cabinet when Donnie Brasco is fixing the items in his house early on in the movie.

  • Anachronisms: When about to board the boat "The Left Hand" a sign with gas prices can be seen that are obviously from the 1990s.

  • Continuity: When the crew is on the boat in Florida it is daytime but the shot of the women dancing on the deck is obviously sunset and then it goes back to daytime when Donnie and Lefty are talking.

  • Continuity: When Sonny Black gets sent for, he's smoking a cigarette, then throws it on the floor. AS he walks off in the next shot, the cigarette is no longer there.

  • Continuity: Early in the movie, when Donnie is called to get out of the car, he turns off the engine, the windscreen wipers are almost vertical. In the next shot, they are half-way down.

  • Continuity: When Donnie is first introduced to the wise guys standing out in the cold, a Lincoln town car pulls up. When it stops it's a Lincoln mark 6

  • Revealing mistakes: When Lefty confronts Donnie about The Left Hand being a federal boat, the .38 revolver he brandishes points to the camera, and the blocked barrel is clearly visible.

  • Continuity: During a conversation between Lefty and 'Donnie', Lefty complains that the temperature is only 10 degrees. If this were so, his breath would be visible.

  • Continuity: In the swimming pool scene, Donnie wears a golden chain that appears and disappears between shots.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Donnie is in Florida and one of the characters is reading a story in the paper about the death of John Wayne it is winter in New York. John Wayne, however, died in June of 1979, not during the winter.

  • Anachronisms: "Sawhorse" style traffic safety barricades in 1970's New York were pieced-together out of wood (in the manner of real sawhorses) and then painted yellow or orange - sometimes with stripes. In a street scene, the film shows a white cast-plastic model with applied reflective-tape orange stripes. These came into use in the mid 1990's.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Joe/Donnie is shooting on the firing range, the second shot seen on screen ends without the pistol's action returning to firing position because the magazine is empty, but the shot cuts to the target, which is immediately struck by more shots.
