  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: "At least one time during the scene at Rahad's house, Cosmo tosses a firecracker and the explosion is visible in the background but no sound is made." In fact, you can hear the fizz of a dud.

  • Crew or equipment visible: The shadow of first camera assistant Michael G. Riba falls on the side mirror of Scotty's Datsun as he sits in it, crying.

  • Anachronisms: Jack Horner walks through the kitchen where we see a 5 gallon white bucket, on the side of which is a warning symbol of a type which first appeared in the early 1990s.

  • Factual errors: At the New Year's Eve party, Todd tells Reed that he made the party because he doesn't work on Sundays. New Year's Eve fell on a Monday in 1979.

  • Continuity: Before entering Rahad's house, Todd places a large handgun in his front waistband and it can be clearly seen later as he first approaches Rahad to give him a hug. The gun then disappears and does not reappear until he finally brandishes it.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When the stereo store customer exits the scene, you can see him make an unusually large step forward. This is because he is stepping over the dolly track.

  • Anachronisms: When Amber and her ex-husband met with the judge over custody in September of 1983, there were portraits of President Ronald Reagan and Governor Jerry Brown on the wall. Brown was governor from January 1975 to January 1983, and George Deukmejian had been governor for several months by the time this scene took place.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Little Bill is complaining to the cinematographer about his wife having sex with other men he says, "My fucking wife's on the driveway with a fucking ass in her cock."

  • Anachronisms: When Eddie, Reed and Scotty are in the clothing store purchasing the same outfits, the bay window behind Scotty looks out onto the street showing (current) 1990's era mini-vans and SUV's driving by. This particular scene takes place in 1977.

  • Anachronisms: The Corvette that Dirk Diggler bought brand-new in 1978 had Goodyear Eagle ST tires on it. The Eagle line of tires was introduced by Goodyear in the early '80s, and the ST was never an original equipment tire - it was available only as an after-market purchase.

  • Continuity: When Maggie asks Eddie if he's all right before his first shoot, she puts her hand on his face in the close up and then takes her hand away. In the next shot however, she begins to pull her hand away once again.

  • Anachronisms: Dirk Diggler performs a studio recording of Stan Bush's song "The Touch" in March of 1983, but the song was written for The Transformers: The Movie (1986), which was released in 1986.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene where they are filming in the limousine, which is supposed to be in 1983, the limousine is a 1985 or newer model.

  • Anachronisms: In Eddie's room at his parent's house, one of the posters seen on the bedroom walls is Richard Petty's STP sponsored 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix; the scene is set in 1977.

  • Anachronisms: When Dirk and the others go to rip-off the drug dealer a Neighborhood Watch sign is visible on a pole across from the front door. This type of sign did not come out until the 1990s

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Dirk is recording vocals in the studio, the shadow of the boom mic is visible on the wall behind him when the camera pans to the left.

  • Crew or equipment visible: In the pool party scene, the underwater swimming girl gets up, as she passes the camera pans and you can see the dark reflection in the sliding glass door of the cameraman holding the underwater camera.

  • Anachronisms: At Rahad's house where the three guys are discussing a drug deal with him (since the scene is meant to be set in the early 1980's: possibly 1983), after he talks about the order of songs on tapes, the audio mix tape as it runs out the moment the song currently playing reaches its climax (before reverse side playback) - in close-shot reveals that it is a Maxell 'clear style' tape - not an 80's style for this brand (although it may be possible Maxell did release a transparent all-tape style in the late 1980's). This particular tape is clearly 1990's style, and Maxell didn't introduce this type of shell until early that decade, way after 1983. The tape shown in this shot is far too modern for the scene.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the filming of the first love scene between Eddie and Amber waves, Eddie says to her (just before she tells him she's fixed and he can cum inside her), "you feel so good inside me."

  • Anachronisms: There is a poster of Madonna, on a scene from the late 1970s. Madonna only became known to the public in the mid-1980s, a few years after the scene takes place.

  • Anachronisms: In a scene from 1983, a can of Coca-Cola says "Coca-Cola Classic". The branding "Classic" wasn't added to the Coke branding until 1985, after the New Coke backlash.
