Ron Livingston Happily Married, We Presume

11 November 2009 5:15 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Glad to see Ron Livingston doesn't have Berger's commitment issues. The 42-year-old actor, who just couldn't deal with Carrie Bradshaw's success on Sex and the City, married fellow thesp Rosemarie DeWitt last week, People reports. They tied the knot Nov. 2 in San Francisco after more than three years of dating. Livingston, best known for sticking it to the man in Office Space, fighting for his country in Band of Brothers and reluctantly taking the Goofy job in Swingers, met DeWitt on the set of the short-lived Fox series Standoff. DeWitt, who was one of Don Draper's pieces on the side in the first season of Mad Men, can now be found in The United States of Tara on... »

Exclusive: Test screening review of Fair Game

27 October 2009 1:16 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Thanks to our longtime friend Adam54 of Coming Attractions' message forums, we've landed an exclusive in the form of an early review for Fair Game, the upcoming thriller-drama starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts. The actors play Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame, the married couple who were at the centerstorm of a Washington, D.C. scandal over Plame's outing as an undercover CIA operative by Washington Post journalist Robert Novak. The scandal, known in the press as "Plamegate", destroyed her career and rocked the White House as accusations were leveled against the Bush administration and its allies. Ambassador Wilson made the charge that the Bush administration had knowingly leaked his wife's covert status as a direct response for his public statements that the administration played up or outright lied that Iraq had uranium in its possession to make nuclear bombs. While Bush used the uranium scare to build his case »

Ron Livingston Joins Schmucks

26 October 2009 6:17 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Remember Ron Livingston? He’s the actor who you may know from Band of Brothers, Swingers and one of my favourite films of all time, Office Space. He’s completely underrated as an actor which can be seen in the diversity of characters in Office Space and Band of Brothers.

Variety have given us information today stating that Livingston has joined the new Jay Roach comedy also set to star Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, “Dinner for Schmuck”.

Pic is an adaptation of the Francis Veber-helmed French film “Le dinner de cons,” in which a group of bourgeois friends regularly invite the biggest schmucks to dinner to ridicule them. Livingston’s recent credits include New Line’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and the indie “Holly.”

Ron Livingston Joins Dinner For Schmucks

26 October 2009 1:01 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The underrated Ron Livingston – who will always have a place in Empire’s heart for his work on Office Space, Swingers and, whisper it, his run as Berger in Sex And The City – has joined the cast of Jay Roach’s all-star comedy, Dinner For Schmucks. In case your memory needs jogging, Schmucks stars Paul Rudd as a man who hosts a regular dinner party for his friends, the raison d’etre of which is to find the world’s most pathetic guest. When Carell’s apparent simpleton turns up, the quest appears over. Or is it? Etc. etc.Livingston joins a table that will be brimming with top-tier comedic talent, from Zach Galifianakis to our very own Lucy Punch and David Walliams. No word on who he’s playing just yet, though. The DreamWorks/Spyglass/Paramount movie is currently filming, with a July 23 release date set for next year. »

Couples’ Retreat… Into Mediocrity

21 October 2009 2:19 AM, PDT | t5m.com | See recent t5m.com news »

Throw together several comedic talents (one of which is Vince Vaughn) and place them on a beautiful, tropical island. That is the relatively simple context behind Couples Retreat, written by the creators of Las Vegas based comedy Swingers. As the title to this latest suggests, the story focuses around four couples who are convinced into going to a remote island where they attempt to mend their apparently stale relationships. The interaction between each lead appears natural and it is clear that these are people well used to each others company. This is the films key asset. Many of the jokes however rely on crude, simplistic humour and, as this is a comedy about relationships, you will not win any prizes for guessing that the humour is often sex-based. One particularly cringe worthy set piece involves a toned French hunk making sexual thrusts towards the wives as part of ‘therapy’. Despite »

10 Reasons Vince Is No Fun Anymore

20 October 2009 8:55 AM, PDT | newser.com | See recent newser news »

Vince Vaughn, once "so money" in Swingers , just isn't living up to his promise—although Hollywood probably feels differently, considering the $63 million plus that his last mediocre film ( Couples Retreat) made in its first two weeks. In the Los Angeles Times , Betsy Sharkey lists her top 10 problems with the funnyman: Laziness: Need proof? His performances in Four Christmases and Couples Retreat are basically interchangeable. Too much Jon Favreau: "It's like watching a married couple bicker and quarrel—but without the makeup sex." No drama: He proved he can go beyond comedy in Return to Paradise , so why... »

'Paranormal Activity' Gets The Celebs Tweeting In This Twitter-Wood Special Report

19 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I'm not trying to rain on Warmoth's parade in running this Twitter-Wood special report, but this feels newsworthy. Director Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity" is something of a sensation. Three weeks into its limited release (yet slowly widening) run, the (roughly) $11,000 budgeted found footage horror/suspense flick has earned more than $30 million in box office sales. It's downright staggering.

The success owes its thanks largely to two factors. One: the movie is actually damn good, featuring some well-crafted smoke & mirror and believable performances from the newcomer stars. Two: Paramount has waged an incredibly successful grassroots promotional campaign, built largely on extending the film's word-of-mouth appeal through social networking tools. Micro-blogging service Twitter has of course been one aspect of this campaign, and even celebrities have been getting in on the fun. This Twitter-Wood special edition is all about rounding up those celeb tweets. So hit the jump and enjoy!

Guitar Hero 5 scores promotional push in Couples Retreat

14 October 2009 6:18 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Heading off on holiday to a South Pacific island provides the perfect reason to leave all his cares behind for Dave (Vince Vaughn) in new Us hit, Couples Retreat. Together with his wife, Ronnie (Watchmen’s Malin Akerman) and three other couples including Vaughn’s former Swingers chum, Jon Favreau (currently wearing his director’s hat on Iron Man 2), the stressed out salesman gets a precious break from his nine-to-five grind of promoting the Guitar Hero 5 video game. Only they’ve also got it at the idyllic resort as well – ggrr! Not that the presence of the music video game proved as irksome to the movie’s producers, as it provided a fantastic opportunity for some product placement. »

Vince Vaughn on Couples Retreat

13 October 2009 10:29 AM, PDT | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

Vince Vaughn and his comedy cohorts have developed a style where they take realistic premises and banter them out to ridiculous extremes. It began with Swingers and really came into the mainstream with Old School and Wedding Crashers. After The Breakup, Fred Claus and Four Christmases, Vaughn explained how his style applies to his latest film, Couples Retreat.

Vince Vaughn on a Couples Retreat

.The job of an actor is to look like you.re not acting,. Vaughn said. .Sometimes I think people reward people who go to extreme emotions. I can look at it, and other actors can look at it, and go, .I can see the work in it,. but people go, .That must be powerful because you.re crying.. But, that would make everyone.s crazy aunt a great actor. So, I.ve always felt the real thing to do is make it effortless. Like any performer in music, »

Box Office: ‘Couples Retreat’ Huge and ‘Paranormal Activity’ Rising

12 October 2009 11:11 AM, PDT | Movie Cultists | See recent Movie Cultists news »

Oddly enough, Couples Retreat was the only wide release this weekend and thus debuted to big numbers.  But the real story continues to be Paranormal Activity, which broke into the top five this weekend despite playing in only 159 theaters. Couples Retreat made $35.3 million thanks to the lack of competition and a star-heavy cast (headlined by Vince Vaughn but also starring Jason Bateman, Kristen Davis, Jon Favreau, and Kristen Bell).  It got wretched reviews, which is a little depressing, since Vaughn and Favreau co-wrote it.  Favreau wrote Swingers, man. Zombieland held up well in second place, dropping only 39% to $15 ... »

Vince Vaughn: All Grown Up

12 October 2009 6:56 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Malin Akerman may have been "disappointed" with the more mature Vince Vaughn, but audiences clearly cheered his growth, since Couples Retreat dominated the weekend box office.

Often playing petulant and obnoxious bachelors, Vaughn instead plays a committed family man in Retreat. Vaughn told CNN that this is because the life of a married man is right where he wants to be these days.

Recently, for the first time, I decided that something I actively wanted was to be married and have kids. I always thought I would like to have kids someday, but it became a priority of mine just recently, and I met someone and I'm engaged now ... Just as your priorities change as you get older, so do the subjects that have you interested. Swingers came out of Jon [Favreau] moving to California. We had become friends on Rudy, and I started taking him around to underground swing scenes »

This week:

Vince Vaughn Retreats to the top of the box office; another comic book adaptation makes it way up the Gravel road to the big screen; Michael Bay kills The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Ryan Reynolds hitches a ride with Motorcade and New Line needs a Vacation - but will Chevy Chase be invited?

Box Office

Swingers duo Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau landed in the top spot with Couples Retreat. The comedy snatched an impressive $35 million from movie-goers despite bad reviews.

Woody Harrelson had to settle for second place with Zombieland. The horror-comedy took $15 million from Friday to Monday, dropping a decent 39%  - it looks like the film has a chance of hitting $100 million.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs banked another $12 million for third place. With $96 million in the bank it looks like Meatballs are going to be the order of the day.

Toy Stories 1 and 2 in 3D were fourth with another $7.5 million. »

October 9: DVD alternatives to this weekend’s multiplex offerings

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but the idea of just lying on a tropical beach -- even if you have to pretend the sofa is made of sand -- sounds so much more appealing. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see Couples Retreat this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I reminded myself of the time when Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn had something actually funny and interesting to say.” Instead Of: Couples Retreat, a would-be comedy about four couples who take a vacation at a tropical resort that turns out less paradisiacal than any of them would have liked... In Theaters: A Guitar Hero Commercial

9 October 2009 11:15 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Like an American version of Michael Apted's Up series, the thirteen-year collaboration between Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau has produced a revealing look at the different stages of becoming a Hollywood player. Their 1996 debut, Swingers, hummed with the restless energy of young wannabes ready for their close-up, and when Hollywood subsequently offered the duo all the perks and shortfalls of the spotlight, the newly cynical sensibility it engendered ran a corrosive streak through their 2001 reunion, Made. The two men have seen their careers dip and stage a mighty comeback in the years since, and in their latest collaboration, the island comedy A Guitar Hero Commercial, we get an unpretty look at the fatty nonchalance of a newly minted Hollywood A-lister. »

Review: ‘Couples Retreat’

9 October 2009 9:15 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Looking for some highbrow comedy? Keep on looking. If you loved the trailer for this movie, go watch it again. There, now you know the entire plot and you have seen all the funny parts of the film. I  just saved you an hour and 47 minutes and at least ten bucks. You’re welcome.

It’s not that this is a terrible film, it just doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Couple’s Retreat tries to be the rom-com version of  The Hangover, and fails. The laughs are there, but they are anemic at best and spread too thin over a far too long running time.

Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) are a tightly wound yuppie couple who pull their friends aside at a child’s birthday party and ask them to attend a quick presentation. Believing that they are going to see another power point presentation about testicular cancer prevention, »
