Sling Blade (1996) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

A man in a mental hospital describes picking up a prostitute and hoping that she has "a big bush." He discovers the prostitute is a man when he sees his penis.

A man describes finding his mother and a neighbor having sex and kills them. It is clear throughout the film that discussion of sex makes the protagonist uncomfortable, which reminds the viewer of his discovery of his mother in the act.

Violence & Gore

A man describes murdering his mother and her lover with a sling blade. A man spends time sharpening a lawnmower blade and then kills a man with it by striking him on the head. The killing occurs offscreen.

Profanity

Strong profanity including "fuck" and "shit," and many derogatory comments toward the mentally handicapped and homosexuals.

One character is an alcoholic. He is seen intoxicated in many scenes and often acts verbally and physically abusive while under the influence.

Casual drinking and smoking.

The opening monologue contains intense discussion of the protagonist's personal history leading up to the murder of his mother and her lover. In several scenes a man threatens other characters. A man is murdered offscreen, but the build-up to the murder is very intense.
