Cecil Parkes:
You must play as if there's no tomorrow.
Peter:
Religion is nonsense.
Ben Rosen:
It's also a gold mine if you know where to dig.
Isaac Stern:
America. You know, land of the free, home of the brave. You know, Mickey Mouse.
Peter Helfgott:
In this world only the strong survive. The weak get crushed like insects.
David:
It's a tough game, isn't it Roger?
Roger:
It's a bloodsport.
David:
You can't lose 'em all.
[
Gillian has come to visit Sylvia. When they arrive home, the house is in a mess and loud music is playing]
Gillian:
Is that the water running?
[
Sylvia runs to the bathroom to find the shower running and the basin overflowing]
Sylvia:
David? Where in God's heaven is he?
Cecil Parkes:
Rachmaninov? Are you sure?
David:
Kind of. I'm not really sure about anything.
Cecil Parkes:
The Rach 3. It's monumental.
David:
It's a mountain. The hardest piece you could everest play.
Peter:
No-one will love you like me, no-one like me.
Gillian:
Your first concert in years and you wear odd shoes.
David:
Would you marry me?
Gillian:
Well, it wouldn't be very practical, David.
David:
Practical? No, of course not. Of course not. But then neither am I, Gillian. Neither am I. I'm not very practical at all.
Sylvia:
You'll miss the plane!
Gillian:
It's sweet of you, David. I don't know what to say.
David:
The stars, Gillian darling! Ask the stars!
[
repeated line]
David:
It's a mystery.
Cecil Parkes:
No one's ever been mad enough to attempt the Rach Three.
David:
Am I mad enough, professor? Am I?
Gillian:
How do you feel?
David:
I'm shocked, stunned and amazed.
