You can buy this puppy in a WalMart cutout bin for under $6, so what's the harm? It has modest, reasonably effective FX, a killer performance by Michael Rooker, slumming here as a gun-toting priest on the trail of PURE EVIL, and handsome, young Canadian thesp Kevin Zegers who went on to star in such masterpieces as KOMODO and several AIR BUD flicks. Zegers also will star in the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD. And it's all (very loosely) based on a Bram (DRACULA) Stoker story! Just like BRAM STOKER'S CURSE OF THE MUMMY! What more could one ask for? Hey, it's no worse than any of those H.P. Lovecraft "adaptations" that popped out of the woodwork in the late 80s and early 90s. I'm thinking in particular of the one where five teens are trapped in a house with a guy and his "wife" whom he keeps chained in the attic. "She" turns out to be some sort of horned demon with great big breasts. That one was good enough to warrant a half-assed sequel. THE UNNAMEABLE was its name, I seem to recall.
