Canadian TV, contrary to popular opinion, is not very good. Canadians have recently started to overvalue our entertainment industry, and no where is this more transparent than on the television scene.
CBC is chock-full of worthless comedic drivel (THE RED GREEN SHOW, THE SEAN CULLEN SHOW), cheap, unfunny political satire, masquerading as something hip (THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES) and an inane, yet offensive talk-show, THE MIKE BULLARD SHOW. Canadians would never admit it, but when it comes to quality entertainment, we're dorks!
TRADERS, though, was a different animal all together. It is remarkable that it turned out as well, and lasted as long, as it did.
The show was full of transfixing characters, most notably Patrick McKenna's, and boasted sparkling fresh story lines. It also had a wonderful acerbic wit.
Truthfully, I'm amazed that it ever caught on in Canada, since it wasn't anti-American, and even had a capitalist sensibility.
We'll probably never see anything this good again.
