COLORFUL AND CRAMMED WITH ACTION, 15 August 1999
Author: ALAN MOUNT from CARDIFF, WALES

This show, unfairly dismissed as a rip-off of "HERCULES" and "XENA" is colorful and crammed with action and is one of the most enjoyable adventure series that T.V. has ever produced easily surpassing British attempts at portraying the Robin Hood legend. Of course, Errol Flynn remains the definitive Robin but Matthew Porretta in the first two seasons of NAORH is by far the best of any since, especially the wooden and ineffectual Kevin Costner. Unlike any other shows in this vein, the makers of "ROBIN HOOD" import many good British actors into Lithuania( where it is filmed)and they make for a sense of authenticity which the show might otherwise lack. The action is frequent and well handled (by martial arts movie veteran Richard Norton) although they could reduce the sound effects slightly in the fight sequences. All in all,Warner Bros. have something on their hands here which if marketed properly could be a substantial worldwide hit.Although John Bradley has now replaced Matthew Porretta in the lead role there is no reason why the arrows shouldn't be flying around Sherwood Forest, Lithuania for a couple more seasons.I,for one, particularly hope that this proves to be the case.
