A Heroes cast member practices law

30 November 2009 11:47 PM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Heroes' Sendhil Ramamurthy and Third Rock From the Sun's Jane Curtin have been added to the cast of the pilot Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. Doctor Who star David Tennant is playing the lead, a Chicago litigator who begins to suffer from panic attacks and now has to coach his clients to represent themselves in court.

Ramamurthy, who plays Mohinder on NBC's superhero drama, will play the best friend of Rex. Things get complicated when the buddy starts to fall for Rex's fiancee (to be played by Mad Men's Abigail Spencer.) Curtin will play Rex's mother, a lawyer herself, who falls for Rex's psychiatrist (Jeffre Tambor.)

Shooting on the NBC comedy-drama pilot gets underway shortly. So what happens if NBC orders a series of Rex? Does that mean Ramamurthy's days on Heroes are over, or is it the days of Heroes are soon to be over? »

Cumming Lands OBE Honour

24 November 2009 5:31 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Scottish actor Alan Cumming has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal from Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace in London.

The X2 star was honoured on Tuesday for his services to film, theatre and the arts, as well as his work as a gay rights campaigner.

Dressed in a traditional Scottish kilt, Cumming said, "I have a voice because of my work. I'm loud and I speak my mind. I feel it's a lucky position to be in - that people want you to speak out for something you want to say anyway. My work has enabled me to do something with my opinions for good."

The actor, who has also appeared in TV shows including Sex & the City, Frasier and Third Rock From The Sun, was joined by his husband Grant Shaffer, his mum and brother at the ceremony. »

Actress Kristen Johnston, best known for her comedy role in the hit TV sitcom ‘Third Rock from the Sun,” will take the lead in the Mint Theatre Company production of So Help Me God!, which previews Off-Broadway starting today (Nov. 18). Johnston (The Women) stars as Lily, a demanding lead actress and struggling stage diva, who is determined to remain in the spotlight. The late writer Maurine Dallas Watkins wrote Chicago (the basis for the Kander and Ebb musical), as well as the screenplays “Libeled Lady” and “Roxie Hart.” »

Review: (500) Days of Summer

8 September 2009 3:24 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

What a brilliant, quirky, imaginative movie we have here. You should know, this is definitely not a love story. Well, it is - but not one you'd expect to see. It's original, creative and a great story. Almost a little depressing if anything, but perfectly enjoyable to watch.

The beautiful Zooey Deschanel plays Summer. A girl who doesn't believe in love and lives life to the full. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (whom you may recognise as Tommy from Third Rock from the Sun) plays Tom, a lovestruck man who will compromise anything to be with Summer.

For a start, the chemistry between the two is brilliant. They're both chilled and relaxed, and give a real sense of originality and believable acting to their roles. The conversations they hold genuinely seems unscripted, and they look as if they really belong together on screen. As well as this, they're both pretty to look at. »

What's the Statute of Limitations For Mentioning Old Work?

24 August 2009 1:03 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Scanning through my RSS feeds at the end of the weekend, my eye immediately fell on this gem from the BBC: "Talking Shop - Third Rock's Joseph Gordon-Levitt on his new film." 3rd Rock from the Sun. It's been eight years since Gordon-Levitt co-starred in that show, which wrapped just as he got out of his teens. Now he's pushing 30, and has had a multitude of work since then. Mysterious Skin, Brick, Stop-Loss, Miracle at St. Anna, 500 Days of Summer, and even G.I. Joe.

I get the reference -- to a degree. With the exception of G.I. Joe, Gordon-Levitt's work hasn't exactly been mainstream. But is aged mainstream work really more relevant than notable indie work, no matter how well-received said work is? Furthermore, it's hard to say these references are just for the sake of mainstream understanding when one of the questions is: "You're best known for Third Rock from the Sun. »

15 Ludicrous Straight-to-dvd Sequels That Actually Exist

17 August 2009 1:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

It's a long standing tradition in Hollywood of course to play it safe rather than risk making something completely original. Sequels? Remakes? Movies based on old TV shows or even toys? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Many is the time we've all rolled our eyes at the notion of a favorite film being needlessly sequelized but the very bottom of the sequel barrel is the straight-to-dvd kind.

Over at Moviefone Kevin Polowy has assembled a list of 15 Ludicrous Straight-to-dvd Sequels That Actually Exist. Some aren't all that surprising. The kids' video market seems to have lots of these so Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (actually the fifth in the series) don't completely blindside me. On the other hand, did the world really need National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure with Randy Quaid boosted to headliner? The biggest »

Movie Review - '(500) Days of Summer'

(500) Days of Summer

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel

Directed by Marc Webb

Rated PG-13

Movies about relationships can only end so many ways. There are varying degrees of happy endings and sad endings, and (500) Days of Summer hits one of those directly on the head. It's difficult to divulge which one, though, because I suspect it's better to not know anything more than that going in.

Instead, I'll focus on three people, two in front of the camera and one behind it. I understand it's a little unorthodox to not actually review a movie in a movie review, but I'll come as close as I can.

The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom and Zooey Deschanel as Summer, hence the film's title. It was directed by Marc Webb, making his feature debut. I should also point out the writers of (500) Days of Summer, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, »

Gen Art Film Festival: Chicago Red Carpet With Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marc Webb, Scott Caan

30 June 2009 3:01 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The Gen Art Film Festival here had red carpet events last week for two movie premieres, “(500) Days of Summer” with star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and director Marc Webb, plus “Mercy” with star and writer Scott Caan.

HollywoodChicago.com was there for both events and scored some Q&A with the principle architects of both films.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lead Actor, “(500) Days of Summer”

The child actor favorite of “Third Rock from the Sun” is all grown up and is making a splash in the independent and now mainstream film world. Following stellar performances in “Brick” (2005) and “The Lookout” (2007), Gordon-Levitt is excellent in his latest, a relationship comedy directed by Marc Webb. Look also for G-l in this summer’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra”.

G.I. Joe Mystery Confirmed: Cobra Commander’s New Look

26 June 2009 10:54 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

There aren’t too many tent pole films left to be released this summer; the only three Really big films would be Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. That’s three more chances for Hollywood to either disappoint fans or blow them out of the water. Public Enemies and Harry Potter should be pretty safe bets for a solid performance but the G.I. Joe is still a project that could go either way.

Everyone has been talking about how bad they think the humor will be, how lame the action looks and those damn accelerator suits really have people’s knickers in a twist. But one thing I haven’t heard people bring up in awhile is the look of Cobra Commander (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).

Screen Rant did report in February on the possible look of Cc, based on the »

28 May 2009 3:54 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

"Third Rock From the Sun" star John Lithgow has landed a killing part in Showtime's "Dexter." The 63-year-old actor is joining the show's season four as a regular.

The Academy Award-nominated actor will play a serial killer who has just moved in to Dexter's town.

The new villain's profile reads, "Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America's most prolific and deadliest serial killers."

"Dubbed the Trinity Killer because of his proclivity to kill in threes, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). Brought on to assist the investigation of Miami's latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes fascinated with Trinity's unique killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades."

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins Nolan's 'Inception'

24 April 2009 7:22 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Are you surprised that Joseph Gordon-Levitt escaped Third Rock from the Sun with his subtlety in tact? I mean between French Stewart and John Lithgow, that's a whole lotta queso. I think Lithgow even won the Emmy for Most Acting in a Comedy Series in 2000.

But Gordon-Levitt has become a great young character actor, and if he was a bigger guy, he'd be in the talks for all these superhero movies launching right about now. Watch Brick and The Lookout, skip (as nearly everyone did) Killshot, and wait with bated breath for 500 Days of Summer, in which he's terrific.

Christopher Nolan likes what he's seen out of Gordon-Levitt, adding him to join the growing cast of his Batman spacer, Inception, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Leonardo DiCaprio was the first name attached to the film, and in the weeks since, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, and Ellen Page have been signed. »

Overlooked Greatness: 'Brick' (2005)

Photo: Focus Features This just in (not really, but it makes it sound important): Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience has underperformed. Expected to make in the area of $30 million, the 3D picture that thought it could has come in at just under $13 million. Now, since it has been heralded as a "concert experience," I'm not sure if it really qualifies as a movie... but hearing about this sad, un-Miley-like box office implosion, I started wondering: What happened to movies with teen themes? Can't Hardly Wait... She's All That... Boys and Girls. The American Pie franchise has been relegated to DVD reprisal, and last I heard, 10 Things I Hate About You is now in development to become a TV series... which seems weird. Well, here's what I think happened to movies primarily featuring teen storylines: they sucked. Oh, that might seem like a harsh conclusion -- I watched and loved them all, »

Johnston's Illness Robbed Her Of Hunger

7 January 2009 11:00 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Kristen Johnston is struggling to gain weight again after a burst ulcer turned her skinny overnight - because the illness has robbed her of her hunger for food.

The 3rd Rock from the Sun star was last year forced to deny rumours she was suffering from an eating disorder, after she was snapped looking skinny, revealing she fell ill during a run on London's West End stage in Love Song and dropped 40 pounds (18 kilograms) in weight in a London hospital.

Six months on, the statuesque star claims she's finding it impossible to bulk up to her former size, because she's never hungry.

Johnston, 40, tells People magazine, "The problem is, my stomach no longer indicates to me whether it's hungry. When food is in front of me, I eat it, but I'm never hungry. Ever. I went to the doctor about it. He says my stomach will eventually get back to normal." »
