STAR RATING: ***** The Works **** Just Misses the Mark *** That Little Bit In Between ** Lagging Behind * The Pits

Toliver (Michael Dudikoff) is a hardened marine who needs an equally hardened team of soldiers to travel into North Korea and rescue some soldiers trapped by a maniacal general (Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa.) So where better to look than a state prison, where he recruits six of the toughest to go with him and complete the mission. Along the way, Toliver and the recruits tackle and evade deadly man-traps-and discover each other in the process.

Dudikoff had always struck me as a bit too baby-faced to really succeed as an action star, but in this he manages the grizzly, stone-faced hard-man act very well (with a really neat tough guy name to boot.) Unfortunately, he's also saddled with a perfunctory script with piecemeal stunts/action and a rather pantomine villain in Tagawa. It's distracting enough, though, the Dude's own little spin on The Dirty Dozen. **
