The newly released Kevin Smith three-movie box set contains the popular director’s three most popular films in beautiful Blu-ray quality. Containing his debut Clerks, along with Chasing Amy and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Smith’s new box set captures a lot of crap you missed the first time around.
Kevin Smith is usually a big hit with internet writers thanks in part to his humble origin, legendary (or hyped, depending on who you ask) beginnings and his rather soft physique. He also represents the film/comic book/video game subculture, which has made serious strides to becoming a mainstream, high covered phenomenon on the verge of losing its trademark and sarcasm.
Or he just makes funny movies.
The legend of Kevin Smith is a classic American success story. A film school reject, Smith decided to break away from schools, books and teacher’s dirty looks and make his »

Oprah's announcement that her show may end its 25-season run in 2011 was almost enough to unseat "New Moon" as the top trending topic of the Twitter-Wood feed today. Kevin Nealon and Wil Wheaton both had a opinions on her possible bow out of syndication, while Eli Roth and Kevin Smith helped keep "Twilight" alive in Twitter conversation.
Two big names celebrated birthdays last night in very public fashion, as P. Diddy entertained a few folks on my follow list and Larry King got a little rowdy in my pick for Twitter Pic of the Day. Check that out after the jump along with Jeremy Piven's Calgary Flames trip and Danny DeVito's wholesome moment with Carrie Fisher. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for November 20, 2009.

It appears as if Brodie from Mallrats is all grown up. Jason Lee is taking on a new TV show to follow the end of the run for My Name is Earl on TNT, a pilot called Delta Blues that will be executive produced by George Clooney. As well, Lee is stepping into the director's chair to direct the indie film Get Back, according to THR. Get Back is a time travelling adventure about two music obsessives transported to the 1960s, where one of them gets into a love triangle with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It's a premise that lends itself to the laid-back sentiments of Lee, as well as a potentially great soundtrack (although it should be noted that getting the rights to the anthology of The Beatles is no easy task). It's nice to see Lee branching out and getting behind the camera, as he's long been a popular persona in front of it »

Last night got busy in Twitter-Wood on a few fronts. Former "Remote Control" host Ken Ober's passing surprised a number of tweeters, including Brian Posehn and Jeff Katz, who both noted his loss.
L.A.'s Westwood village theatre, meanwhile, was epicenter for all of the "Twilight" Twitterverse during the "New Moon" premiere. BooBoo Stewart posted a pic from the red carpet, Rachelle Lefevre posted her reasons for missing the event, Brett Ratner was in attendance and Kevin Smith made a date out of the night with his daughter. You can check out what they had to say after the jump along with Twitter Pic pick that I selected more for its significance than its shock value, as Neil Patrick Harris officially moved into the Twitter-Wood neighborhood. It's all in the report for November 17, 2009.

You have to admire Kevin Smith. Growing up in New Jersey, he found himself a circle of likeminded friends who took his scripts and performed them in a sort of comedy revue that wowed audiences in Red Bank. Inspired, he went on to Vancouver and film school where he met his producing muse, Scott Mosier. Back home, they scraped together $27,500, recruited Smith’s friends and shot the semi-autobiographical Clerks. The black and white film, mostly a series of vignettes tied together by the two leads, wowed audiences and became a cult hit.
From there, Smith got hired by Universal to make a second film, the $5 million Mallrats but Smith and the studio system clashed and the result was a critical and commercial dud. Still, Smith used many of his friends and made new ones, casting with a keen eye towards nascent (and cheap) talent. He also found a girlfriend, Joey Lauren Adams, »

I am an unashamed Kevin Smith fan, and primarily of his earlier, less mature work. If there's such a thing as quality dick and fart joke movies, I would say Kevin's pre-Jersey Girl films fit the description. While I wasn't a big fan of either Clerks 2 or Zack and Miri Make a Porno, films such as Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Mallrats and Dogma are personal comedic favorites of mine and Miramax's Kevin Smith Blu-ray collection brings two of those along with what may be Smith's most respected film, Chasing Amy, home in a tidy little package.
To begin, the collection includes the first ever Blu-ray releases of Clerks and Chasing Amy as well as the previously released Blu-ray edition of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. If you already own the Jay and Silent Bob Blu-ray this is the exact same thing with the included audio commentary, »

I remember when Clerks was announced. It was a Sundance favorite and trailered along with Pulp Fiction. Having had some counter experience, and being a Star Wars nerd, Clerks looked like sweet elixir. And I went to see it opening weekend (in a double feature with Stargate), and was in the Kevin Smith. Revisiting his films Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on Blu-ray in the Kevin Smith collection is a chance to wrestle with what makes Kevin Smith great and somewhat terrible. My review after the jump.
Clerks is one of those films that - at the time - you wanted to root for. It was a small film from a filmmaker who scrapped together his pocket change and made a film, and the history of films like that which received a theatrical release were always encouraging. Spike Lee, Richard Linklater, etc. Now, now that »

Actor Jeremy London is facing foreclosure on his Los Angeles home - just weeks after he was hit with a lawsuit over unpaid credit card bills.
The Mallrats star has been targeted by mortgage lender Countrywide, who claim London defaulted on his home loan and owes $12,856 (£8,570) in payments.
If the star fails to repay the missed installments, his home could be foreclosed, according to the lawsuit filed at Los Angeles Superior Court in September.
London is also being chased by officials at American Express, who allege the 36 year old racked up $19,485 (£12,990) in charges he never paid off.
Countrywide will put the home up for auction on 21 October if its demands are not met, according to TMZ.com. »

Back in the late '90s, Warner Bros. was working on another Superman movie that was to be directed by Tim Burton off a script written by none other than Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats). To make things that much stranger, their Man of Steel at the time was a long-haired Nicolas Cage, and the film – titled Superman Lives -- revolved around the 1992 Death of Superman comic storyline in which Superman battled the villainous Doomsday till each of them perished. At the time, the film was so far along that various screen tests had been conducted and it had been given a release date of July 4th 1998. However, a ballooning budget – coupled with the box office failure of Batman & Robin – forced the studio to scrap the entire thing. Eight years later, the story was...

Kevin Smith is a funny guy. He'd probably use a more... "colorful" word than "guy," one starting with 'mother' and ending with a term I won't repeat here (it starts with 'f'), but that's all part of his charm. He's a talented filmmaker to be sure -- just look at modern classics like "Clerks" and "Dogma" -- but he's also a fantastically well-spoken and engaging individual.
That's why you should be excited about Titan Books' "Shootin' the S--t With Kevin Smith: The Best of SModcast," which hits store shelves on September 22. As in tomorrow. It's filled transcribed conversations between Smith and his View Askew partner and longtime collaborator Scott Mosier. Hit the jump for a brief excerpt of the hilarity. And stay tuned for MTV.com next week, as Smith will be here in the office to answer some questions!

Warwick Davis has only gotten cooler in my eyes since I started following his Twitter account. The "Harry Potter" and "Willow" star apparently set up a laser tag match this week with John Williams' "Star Wars" score playing in the background, which sounds like quite the celebration of sci-fi geekdom.
It was also a relief this morning to read that I wasn't the only one seeing little bird-shaped, multicolor avatars everywhere when I logged in to Twitter. Diablo Cody and Richard Kelly experienced the same thing with reactions similar to my own. If you know what I'm talking about, or want to find out, click on down below and read their posts, along with Peter Facinelli's exhausting end-of-day tweet from the "Eclipse" set and a Selena Gomez Alma Award pic for all you "Wizard of Waverly Place" fans. They're in the Twitter-Wood report for September 18, 2009.

Kevin Smith completed his Twitter marathon today, and there were fellow Twitter-Wood feed faces like Richard Kelly and Brian Posehn there to meet him at the finish line. The Twitter-Wood report likewise congratulates him on his 24-hour Q&A session and wishes him sweet dreams while he re-adjusts to a normal sleep cycle again.
Emmy Rossum seems to be the new "Full House" star Twitter-Wood reports over the last week. You can probably chalk that up to my affinity for Counting Crows. I slipped in two more tweets on her performance with them in Central Park today -- this time with video links. Honestly, I could have made a complete report just between her and Kevin Smith today, but I did throw in Shannon Elizabeth's birthday pic, a Hollywood confession and a Twitter Pic of the Day featuring human size extremes. Enjoy!

Editor's note: Mr. Warmoth wrote this up yesterday, but tech issues prevented me from running it. So please enjoy this post-Labor Day Twitter-Wood morning edition.
Happy Labor Day, everyone. Posts in the Twitter-Wood feed certainly didn't rest for the holiday -- particularly those of Kevin Smith, who is currently engaged in a 24-hour tweet-a-thon of questions and answers with his followers. I've included a few highlights but highly recommend throwing your own queries at him before he logs off.
In other news, the feed found a new feed this weekend! We proudly welcome the yet-to-become-Verfied account of Danny DeVito, whose profile pic alone has earned him a top slot on the list and Twitter Pic of the Day laurels. You can check it out in the link below alongside Smith's answers and Labor Day activities involving Peter Facinelli, Russell Brand and Neil Gaiman. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is a special »

Monday being Labor Day, many of us hard-working folk plan to spend the day off by liberally applying suntan lotion to our backsides and resting beneath the sun. But Kevin Smith won't stand for that -- no, he has a devious plot to keep us inside all day long.
According to a press release, Smith is promising to conduct a 24-hour online Q&A via Twitter beginning on Labor Day morning. The filmmaker, currently working on the to-be-renamed "A Couple of Dicks," will hold the "Tweet-a-Thon" in part to promote "Shootin' the Sh-- with Kevin Smith," his upcoming book.
"This is not news at all," Smith said of the impending all-day Q&A. "In fact, it's kinda stupid. But I wanna see if I can do it. I've been training for this my whole life, simply by being a lazy fat-ass who'd rather stare at a screen than better himself with a brisk constitutional. »

Filmmaker (and occasional PopWatch guest editor) Kevin Smith is holding a 24-hour marathon Twitter Q&A fest on Monday, where he'll field questions from his followers for a solid day. Follow him at @ThatKevinSmith, and consider yourself warned about the graphic language and adult situations. Yes, the tweetathon is to publicize his new book Shootin' the Sh*t with Kevin Smith, but given how freewheeling and awesome his live Q&As are, this isn't exactly a talking-points kinda promo event. I'll admit to being a total Smith devotee -- I think I watched Mallrats on a continuous loop for basically all of ninth grade -- but for the unconvinced among you, I say: Put on your headphones and watch this clip from An Evening with Kevin Smith where he talks about trying to write a Superman movie. Smith's a staggeringly natural storyteller, and while I'm partial to the longer format, »

Brett Ratner may not be making that "Guitar Hero" movie that he's dreamed about, but he is getting the chance to help launch the new game with a commercial. And he's excited -- like tweeting about it excited.
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, those wildfires are still burning, and the faces of the Twitter-Wood feed are still watching the smoke fly. Richard Kelly and Rose McGowan caught a glimpse of the flames, while Kevin Smith linked to what the little actress from "Jersey Girl" is up to these days, and Miranda Cosgrove locked herself out of her home. Disney surprised a lot of tweeters this morning when the company announced its acquisition of Spider-Man and X-Men publishers Marvel Entertainment. Kevin Smith, Jeff Katz, Dax Shepard, and many others chimed in with thoughts on the purchase.
Elsewhere, the tweets are still trickling in from those remembering DJ Am, including renowned Vegas party-goer Paris Hilton. The list of tweets today was actually fairly thick to sort through, with all of these reactions, a photograph of a "Twilight" star biting into a horse and Bob Saget's response to a fan's request for him to tell the "Aristocrats" joke on Twitter. It's all below in the Twitter-Wood Report for August 31, 2009.

David Slade may be experiencing some frustrations on the set of "Eclipse" right now, but none of them are coming from his lead cast members, according to his tweets today. The director spoke highly of "Twilight" lovebirds Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but had less complimentary things to say about airplane noise overhead.
Director Kevin Smith, meanwhile, offered up some self-deprecating commentary on his appearance in the new full-length "Degrassi" movie, "Degrassi Goes Hollywood," where he returned to hob-nob with his favorite Canadian teen-stars. And speaking of teen-stars, I've got a shot of Frankie Muniz's recent hand injury in the Twitter Pic of the Day. Have a look at that along with other pics from Rachelle Lefevre and Neil Gaiman.
